9/6/18

Oklahoma, Tulsa.  Undated International Petroleum Exposition quarter with TULSA, OK. stamped between the first two lines on the obverse.  Unlisted.  I didn’t know about this one, but I didn’t think it was worth the starting bid of $19.99 with FREE shipping.  Neither did anyone else, apparently, because after two bidless weeks it went down to $15.00 with FREE shipping.  After 3 more weeks the start was lowered to $9.99 with FREE shipping, then $6.99, then for the week ending October 22 the start was dropped to $5.99 with FREE shipping.  Finally, in my price territory!  I bid and won it as the only bidder at the opening price.

9/11/18

Nevada, Boulder City.  1978 Boulder Barter Buck.  Starting bid?  $33.99 with FREE shipping!  No bids, so after two weeks the listing was ended unsold.  No problem though, there’s always more on Ebay, and they suggested another one that was offered for $66.75 plus $3.75 shipping.

9/11/18

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  Set of London Bridge Dollars for the first 5 years, 1972-1976.  All standard issues except for the 1976 which was struck in silver.  Start 99¢ plus 99¢ more for shipping.  There were 13 bids by 4 bidders and I won the lot for $29.00.  Too cheap!

9/14/18

Minnesota, White Bear Lake.  1967 Official Souvenir Dollar.  About Uncirculated.  Start $6.50 with FREE shipping.  No bids, so the next week it came back as a BIN item at the same price.  It is still being listed two months later.

9/14/18

9/16/18

New York, New York.  1909 Hudson-Fulton Celebration Daalder.  Large size in Aluminum.  HK-370.  Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks XF/AU to me.  The seller thinks "it will probably be graded MS-64 by the grading services".  Sadly, I think that is probably right!  Start $3.70 plus $3.00 shipping.  After 14 bids by 8 bidders it sold for $157.50.

9/16/18

Texas.  “1845” Alamo Penny.  Start $1.95 plus $1.20 shipping.  After 6 bids by 3 bidders it sold for $5.05.

9/18/18

Kansas.  1961 Official Centennial Coin struck in Sterling Silver.  No issuing location applied.  STERLING only variety.  Start $10.00 plus $2.95 shipping.  I was able to buy this one for $11.51 as the third bidder.  Pretty cheap, I think.  Not terribly scarce, as you can count on one of these silver pieces showing up on Ebay every year or so - in one or another of the varieties - and for some reason seldom sell for over $20.00.

9/19/18

Alaska, Sitka.  1957 Alaska Day Half Dollar.  Start $1.95 plus $1.00 shipping.  A single bidder won this piece for the opening bid.

9/20/18

Hawaii, Kauai .  1973 Kauai Dollar in Sterling Silver.  Two pairs of petroglyphs, one large and one small, at either side of shrine.  The seller stated that it looked silver, but wasn’t.  It looked silver to me, so I bid and won it for a very reasonable $13.63 (plus $2.75) after 4 bids by 3 bidders.  It was marked SS on the edge, so it WAS the silver issue.

9/20/18

Indiana, Princeton.  1964 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. About Uncirculated.  There were no bids at the $9.99 plus $3.50 start.  Not relisted.

9/21/18

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  2009/2010 Commemorative Coin noting the Run to the Sun Car Show.  Finished in antiqued nickel-silver plate.  Start $1.88 plus $3.50.  The second bidder won for  $2.63.

9/21/18

9/21/18

Hawaii.  “1875 - 1899” Princess Kaiulani Akahi Dala in gold anodized aluminum.  Still in its mailable display card.  Start $50.00 plus $3.50.  When no one bid at $50, it came back as a Buy It Now item at $75.00, and remains available at that price today - and the postage has gone up as well, to $5.00!  The current closing date is December 12.  ***  Somehow this kind of selling reminds me of going fishing with my Dad when I was a teenager.  We would go to a lot of different places in search of a bunch of different kinds of fish, and my Dad had one lure he’d always try, a big florescent yellow and pink striped worm-like thing with big eyes that would wiggle through the water in a very unnatural way.  Dad’s fishing buddies would always poke fun at him when he used that lure and said that nothing but a retarded fish would bite at a bait like that.  It didn’t work too often, but once in a while it did, and I can still remember Dad saying that his retarded fish was going to taste every bit as good as any of the others.  It makes me wonder if this Ebay seller is a fisherman…I guess there’s always the chance of catching a sucker.

9/21/18

Indiana, Logansport.  1976 County SesquiCentennial, U. S. Bicentennial Dollar.  Oxidized brass version.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  Start $1.99 plus $2.90.  The first bidder must have placed a maximum bid of $4.00, because the second bidder won the token for $4.25.

9/22/18

South Dakota.  Set of 18 South Dakota Dollars 1982 to 1990.  Two for each year, Nickel Plated and Fine Silver, the two metals for each year, in commemorative plastic holders.  Each set is numbered 56 on the holders and on the enclosed coins.  The series II Dollars began with the 1981 issue, but this lot did not include the 1981 issues.  They had been on Ebay for a while at $199.00 with FREE shipping for the set.  It was pretty cheap at that price, but when the seller added the Make Offer option, I sent in a bid for $177.00, and it was accepted.  These later date South Dakota Dollars are all somewhat scarce, with a mintage of only 800 pieces for the regular issue nickel plated ones.  The pure silver ones are relatively common, for silver issues - I am not sure of their mintage, but it is certainly 100 or less - gotta be at least 56 of them out there, according to the numbers on the coins!

9/23/18

Oregon, Joseph.  1995 50th Anniversary of Chief Joseph Days “Five Tokens” Token.  Extremely Fine. It does not meet the definition of a SCD, of course, but maybe that comment was enough to get some collectors to bid.
