9/1/16

Michigan, Fruitport Township.  1967 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage unknown.  Catalog value $3.50.  Put up for bid starting at 99¢ plus $1.99 shipping. After a few weeks with no bids, it was made a Buy It Now item at the same cost.  It is still being offered, with the current listing ending November 28.

9/1/16

Iowa, Monroe.  1971 Old Settlers Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  Originally an auction item with a $9.99 with FREE shipping start.  It eventually became a Buy It Now item for $6.29.  There have been no bids or purchases during the last two months, and it is still available in the Seller’s Store.

9/1/16

Iowa, Monroe.  1972 Old Settlers Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  This one started off with an opening bid of $9.99 with FREE shipping start, but when no bids were forthcoming, it became a BIN item with gradually decreasing prices - currently $7.19, still with the FREE shipping.

9/2/16

New Mexico, Alamagordo.  1958 60th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  A somewhat scarce token but not worth the $99.99 plus $6.00 opening bid!  There were no bids and it is still available as of November 3 at the same opening bid.

9/3/16

Illinois, La Salle.  1967 Starved Rock Coin Club / Illinois Numismatic Association “Commemorative / Souvenir / Half-Dollar / NOV. 18-19.  Not listed because it does not celebrate a significant community event, but some MTC collectors collect it because it says Souvenir Half Dollar.  I’ve got one in my “wannabe” collection.  This sale was for a lot of 3 uncirculated pieces. Start was $12.99 + $4.95, but there were no bids.  It was then lowered to $10.99 + $3.99, then $9.99 + $3.99, then $6.99 + $3.99 where it stayed until the listing was finally ended unsold on November 5.

9/3/16

Kwajalein. Undated Kwaj Karnival Dollar.  The start was $9.25 with FREE shipping.  I guess everyone who wanted one of these has gotten theirs, because there were no bids.  Not relisted.

9/4/16

Colorado, Fort Morgan.  1959 Town 75th Anniversary / Rush to the Rockies Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $5.00.  This auction was for one in just XF/AU condition.  The starting price was $49.95 with FREE shipping.  Here is the way the Colorado seller described the piece:

“1959 Rush to the Rockies Commemorative - Rare!!! So-Called Dollar/Trade Token

Note: This is a Congressional Authorized Official Medal on Obverse side and a commercial trade token good for 50 cents on reverse!!!

A SUPER RARE variety that was obviously an oversight and you may not ever find an official medal/trade token hybrid again!!”

Hmmm.  There were no bids and it is still available at the same opening bid.  The current listing ends November 16.

9/5/16

Alabama, Montgomery.  1961 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar in Extremely Fine condition.  Mintage 30,000.  Catalog value $2.50.  Offered for a start of $6.99 + $2.60 shipping.  Surprisingly, there were 2 bids and it sold for $8.00.

9/6/16

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  1976 U.S. Bicentennial London Bridge Dollar struck in Copper - the standard issue.  Mintage 25,000.  Catalog value $5.00.  Offered for $16.50 plus $2.09 shipping.  There were no bids forthcoming and the seller has been relisting the token ever since.  The price has been dropping, and now it is available as a Buy It Now item for $8.99.  The current listing ends on November 17.

9/6/16

Michigan, Manistee.  1950 Sports Festival Quarter.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.00.  An attractive token in the typical XF-AU condition.  There were no bids at the $39.50 plus $3.50 start, and after 3 weeks the seller ended the listing unsold.

9/6/16

Michigan, Upper Peninsula.  Undated (1981) Upper Peninsula Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  There are at least three die varieties of this token, each of which catalogs at $2.50 in gilt brass - as this.  Started at $4.95 plus $2.62, this item attracted 2 bids and sold for $7.71.

9/7/16

9/7/16

Ohio, Bedford.  1962 125th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  Offered for a start of $2.59 plus $2.11 shipping.  It was offered unsuccessfully at this price for four weeks, eventually becoming a Buy It Now item at the same price during the final week.  No sale.

9/8/16

Utah, (Salt Lake City).  Undated Pioneer Day Celebration Dime.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $35.00.  Offered for $14.99 with FREE shipping.  I was very happy to be the winner at just $15.49.  I can’t believe there were only two bids for this little treasure!

9/8/16

Washington, Ephrata. 1974 Freedom Festival Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  This one began with an incredibly low 45¢ plus 49¢ start.  There were 4 bids by 3 bidders and it sold for $1.25.

9/9/16

Alaska. 1962 Alaska Boosters $20, Eskimo Blanket Toss variety, struck in gilt brass. Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $10.00.  Sold to a single bidder at the $15.00 plus $2.62 opening price

9/9/16

Arizona, Tombstone.  “1879” Helldorado Days Souvenir Dollar in Aluminum. Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50. 9/11/16

New York, New York City.  1909 Hendrik Hudson Daalder HK-370  large format aluminum edition. Nearly XF but called “Almost Uncirculated +, if not Uncirculated” by the seller.  There was clear wear, as well as scuffs and abrasions.  Start $19.95 + $2.70.  There were 15 bids by 6 bidders and it sold $89.00.   Encased in a World Premier holder which at first glance appears to be a slab, but isn’t.

9/11/16

Guam.  1974 Guam Dollar described as struck in Silver and numbered 224.  This was a bright and gemmy specimen, but it does not appear to be silver.  The edge, which would tell the whole story was not described.  The seller described it as catalog # 5 in Unusual World Coins, which is a silver issue.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $27.50 for the real silver issue, $10.00 for the silver plate.  This was probably the silver plate version.  The start was $39.95 + $3.85.   There were 8 bids by 3 bidders and it sold for $66.00.  I was so certain it was not the silver strike that I didn’t even bid.

9/11/16

Guam.  1974 Guam Dollar struck in oxidized brass. Unnumbered version.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.50.  The start was 99¢ plus $3.00 shipping.   It sold for $13.38 after 7 bids by 4 bidders.  This second Guam Dollar was by a different seller than the “silver” one above.

9/12/16

Massachusetts, Dennis-Harwich.  1975 Cape Cod Dollar struck in Gilt brass.  The mintage is 5,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  A bit scuffed up, but still bright.  The start was $11.50 with FREE shipping.  There were no bids and it is still available at the same cost as of November 13.

9/13/16

New York, Albany.  1963 Tulip Festival Half Dollar.  Mintage unknown.  Catalog value $3.50.  The start was an enthusiastic $19.95 plus $2.75 additional for shipping.  There were no bids, but it has been relisted many times and the current start is down to $15.99.  The active listing ends on November 13.

9/13/16

Wyoming, Basin.  1971 Diamond Anniversary Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  This specimen was called Very Good by the seller, but its condition was definitely the typical Uncirculated.  Offered for $19.00 plus $2.50 shipping, this overpriced token found no home and is now available for a $25.00 BIN price, but with a Best Offer option.  The current listing ends on December 11.

9/14/16

Alaska.  “1878” The Last Frontier Alaska Dollar.  Antique nickel-silver with bright nickel-silver Liberty Head variety.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously cataloged.   It started at 99¢ plus $2.60, and sold for $17.90 after 19 bids by 5 bidders.

9/14/16

New Hampshire, Ellsworth.  1969 Centennial Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $12.50.  Quite a scarce item!  While only in AU condition, I was pleased to grab it as a duplicate for the  $12.99 with FREE shipping opening bid.

9/14/16

Oregon, Cottage Grove.  1963  Bohemia Days Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  This AU (typical) specimen started off at 99¢ + $2.75 shipping, gathered 6 bids by 7 bidders, and sold for $7.38.

9/15/16

Montana.  1964 Statehood Diamond Jubilee / Territorial Centennial Dollar struck in silver.  Variety with STERLING and number (502) on edge.  Mintage reported as 1,000 - but probably higher because they show up much more frequently than a token of this mintage should.  Catalog value $15.00.  Start was $34.99 plus $4.14.  No bids, so after a few weeks the price was lowered to $32.99, but that didn’t work either.  Still available at that price in late November.

9/16/16

Georgia, Villa Rica.  1976 U. S. Bicentennial 13¢ piece.  Private issue for Met Coins.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously cataloged.  The start was 99¢ plus an additional $1.95 for shipping.  There were 4 bids by 3 bidders and it sold for $7.13.

9/16/16

California, San Mateo.  1976 Bicentennial Half Dollar.  Private issue for the El Rastro Coin Shop.  Mintage 1,000.  Not previously listed.  Started at 99¢ plus $1.95 shipping.  There were just two bids and it sold for $1.84.

9/16/16

California, Modesto.  1976 U. S. Bicentennial private issue for The Glo Worm, Don and Darlene Root, Good for 1 Drink.  Uncirculated with a couple minor spots.  This item started at 99¢ plus an additional $1.95 for shipping.  There were four bids by two bidders and it sold for $3.54

9/17/16

Montana.  1964 Statehood 75th Anniversary / Territorial Centennial Dollar struck in silver.  Mintage supposedly 1,000, but the holder said this was #1490.  The seller noted that it was marked STERLING on the edge, but did not re-confirm the number.  The start was $32.00 plus $3.00 shipping, but there was no interest at that price.  By the time the seller ended the listing unsold on October 3, the price had fallen to $25.60.

9/18/16

New York, Perinton.  1962 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  Offered for $19.99 with FREE shipping.  There were no bids at this level and after several price reductions it is still available two months later as a Buy It Now item, for $8.99.

9/19/16

West Virginia, Williamson.  1969 Black Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $4.00.  Sold to a single bidder at the $7.99 with FREE shipping start.

9/20/16

New York, New York City.  1909 Hendrik Hudson Daalder - the small gold dollar size, struck in aluminum.  Listed as HK- 374.  This one was graded AU-58 by NGC, but in my opinion it was an unusually worn and scratched Very Fine.  Priced at $120.00 Buy It Now.  No bids.

9/20/16

North Dakota.  1981 North Dakota Dollar picturing the Northern Pacific train station in Mandan.  Mintage 750 (this one numbered 495).  Catalog value $5.00.  Priced at a BIN price of $24.78 with FREE shipping.  There were no bids and it is still available.  The price has been gradually lowered to $21.45, with the current listing ending November 26.

9/21/16

Oregon, Pendleton.  Undated Pendleton Round Up Meal Ticket for the Let ‘Er Buck Room.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously cataloged - and probably not destined for inclusion, but I didn’t have the piece and when one came up a couple years ago remember I did not bid anywhere near high enough.  This time I was luckier and I won it for $8.50 after an $8.00 + $1.00 start.  A good addition to my wannabe MTC collection.

9/21/16

Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.  1926 United States Sesquicentennial Treasure Island Doubloon.  Scarcer uniface Liberty Bell / skull and crossbones design.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously cataloged.  This one had a start of $7.99 with an additional $2.50 charge for shipping.  There were 2 bids and it sold for $9.38.

9/22/16

Kansas.  1961 Official Centennial coin for Barber County.  Mintage unknown.  Previously uncatalogued as an individual issue.  The Barber County issue is a scarcer one, but this one was in slightly circulated condition with some spots and green corrosion.  Offered as a BIN item at $9.99 with FREE shipping.  There have been no takers and it is still available at the same price as I type this on November 25.

9/23/16

Wisconsin, Black River Falls.  1983 Centennial Dollars in gilt brass and oxidized brass, both numbered 47.  Mintage reported as 250 pieces each.  Catalog value $8.50.  I spotted these two as a Buy It Now offering for just $5.95 plus $2.75 shipping for the pair, and just had to buy them.  Cheap!

9/24/16

Florida, Key West.  1972 Conch Republic Conch Dollar.  Leaping sailfish on reverse - the easiest of the three pewter Conch Dollars to find.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.50.  This one started at 99¢ plus $2.99, drew 7 bids from 5 interested bidders, and sold for $14.50.

9/24/16

Maryland, Frederick County - Hagerstown.  1962 Town 200th Anniversary, Battle of Antietam Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage reportedly 30,000.  Commoner February 15 redemption date.  Catalog value $2.50.  Starting bid was $9.99 with a $12.99 Buy It Now option.  Shipping was $3.99 either way.  There were no bids, and the piece lives on as a BIN item for $12.99 plus shipping.  The current listing ends on November 26.

9/25/16

Kentucky, Ashland.  1954 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $10.00 in Uncirculated condition.  This one made that grade and had a $4.99 plus $1.50 start.  I won it for the opening bid.  This was a good deal for a fully uncirculated piece.

9/25/16

Montana.  1964 Statehood 75th, Territorial Centennial Dollar struck in .999 Fine Silver.  No - from the illustration, clearly a nickel-silver issue - and all known silver examples are marked STERLING.  The seller did not illustrate or describe the edge, but he did give the weight as 23.4 grams, and *that is the weight of the NS examples.  Still, it was offered as “999 Fine Silver” and sold for about what a sterling silver specimen would have brought.  After a 99¢ plus $2.95 start and 10 bids by 5 bidders, it sold for $17.16.

9/25/16

New Jersey, Pittman.  1955 Diamond Jubilee Quarter.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $10.00.  This piece was in below average condition with about half of the gold lettering worn off.  It was up for bid, starting at $12.00 plus $3.00 shipping, but failed to attract a bid and was not relisted.

9/25/16

Oregon, Cottage Grove.  1963 Bohemia Days Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  Offered for a start of $4.99 plus $2.75 for shipping.  This About Uncirculated (which is typical for this issue) token failed to attract a single bid, and the listing closed unsold.

9/26/16

Alabama, Cherokee County.  1961 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  The auction was for an about uncirculated example that started at $9.95 plus $1.25.  There were two bids by two bidders and the token sold for $15.35.

9/26/16

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  1973 London Bridge Dollar struck in pewter.  Mintage 25,000, but quite popular.  Catalog value $10.00.  This one had a $7.00 plus $2.40 start, attracted 6 bids by 3 bidders, and sold for $16.27.

9/27/16

Florida, Key West.  1973 Conch Dollar, the last of the three pewter-like Conch Dollars.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously listed.  This piece had a $4.99 plus $1.10 start.  I bid $12.88 because the sale was almost over and nobody else had bid - but at the last minute someone else placed a higher bid and won it for $13.38.

9/27/16

Hawaii.  “1883” King Kalakaua Dala in Proof-like Silver.  Signed HPM on reverse.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously cataloged by me, but presently valued at $25.00 in the draft for the new edition of the catalog.  This choice specimen started at $21.00, drew 9 bids from 8 bidders, and sold for $36.00.  Postage was FREE.

9/27/16

Hawaii.  “1891” Lilioukalani Queen of Hawaii Huth Medallion style Dala, in Silver.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value, back in 1999, $20.00.  The start was $21.00 with FREE shipping.  After 8 bids by 4 bidders, it sold for $44.00.

9/29/16

Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.  1926 U. S. Sesquicentennial Treasure Island Doubloon.  A nice AU example with nearly full mint luster.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously cataloged, and not particularly scarce.  The start was 99¢ plus $3.50 shipping.  It attracted a total of 15 bids from just 3 bidders, and it sold for $18.00.

9/30/16

Kansas.  1961 Official Centennial coin for Sherman County.  Mintage unknown.  Previously uncatalogued as an individual issue.  Sherman is a rather scarce county, so I was rather surprised when it sold to the second bidder for only $3.24 after a $2.99 start.  Postage was an additional $2.75.

9/30/16

Michigan, Traverse City.  1947 Centennial Quarter.  Holed, as all are.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  This was a nice fully brilliant uncirculated example, which is the way they usually come.  Offered for $7.50 plus $2.62.  There were no bids and it was offered at the same opening bid until November 20, when the seller finally ended the listing unsold.
