MTCs on Ebay December 2017
12/1/17
Connecticut, Waterbury. 1924 250th Anniversary Half Dollar - private issue for Upson, Singleton & Co. A nice uncirculated piece, just a couple tiny spots. Start $29.99 (BIN $20.00). Postage $3.00. No bids. A couple weeks later it came around again, the opening price had dropped to $9.99, and I bid and won it for the opening price. It was just too nice and too cheap! When the token arrived it was not the same one pictured, still uncirculated, but with some much more serious spots. I was disappointed, but since the seller was once again offering the token, I figured he had a couple of them. The next time it came up I won again, at the same opening price, and once again the coin that was sent was inferior to the pictured one, but a bit better than the one I had won earlier. I am still hoping to get the pictured one, but the seller stopped the listing, and it has not been offered since. Another seller had been offering one of these for $49.95, but it was graded AU-50 and encapsulated by NGC. For the week ending January 2 that seller cut the price 15%, to $42.46 plus $3.75, and someone bid, winning it for the opening price. I guess the ones I got were bargains.
12/1/17
New York, New York. “1909” Henry Hudson Daalder with Sommers Island reverse, struck in copper. Nice Uncirculated. $4.99 with FREE shipping start. It sold for $15.51 after 4 bids by 3 bidders.
12/2/17
Kansas. 1954 Official Centennial Coin. Inscription area blank. Choice Uncirculated. Start $1.99 shipping 85¢. No bids. Resisted until January 27 with no bids at all. Too bad, it was a good deal!
12/2/17
Oregon, Milton-Freewater. 1972 Centennial Half Dollar. Start $5.55 plus $2.85. No bids. Listed one more week as a Buy It Now item for the same cost, and when no one bid, the listing was ended.
12/3/17
Hawaii. 1984 Christmas Dalas with special CHRISTMAS 1984 inscription on the edge of 1985 Silver Kalakaua and Liliuokalani Akahi Dalas. Sold the Royal Hawaiian Mint as a set in a wooden presentation case. This Proof set began at $49.99 plus $6.25, and sold for $82.55 after 5 bids by 3 bidders.
12/3/17
Minnesota, Cass County. 1958 Centennial Half Dollar. Graded as MS-64 and encapsulated by NGC. Offered for a start of $19.95 plus $2.85. There were some unusual spots on the reverse, but otherwise it was a decent coin. The seller also noted that this issue was previously cataloged by NGC as a So-Called Dollar, HK-517A, but this one was not so identified on the slab. It sold for $57.00 after 4 bids by 4 different bidders.
12/3/17
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. 1926 U. S. Sesquicentennial Treasure Island Dubloon. This is the solid uniface design with Liberty Bell and skull and crossbones. Solder mark on reverse from pin removal - as usual. Otherwise Extremely Fine. Start $9.99. Postage $2.99. Sold for $13.00 after 2 bids.
12/3/17
Washington, Winthrop. 1991 Centennial dollar. Start $1.99 plus $1.25. No bids - listed at the same price until January 8 when the item was ended unsold. This one lasted until December 17 before being ended unsold.
12/4/17

12/4/17
Indiana, Rosedale. 1960 Centennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $17.50. A very scarce issue! This one started at $3.99 plus $2.67, and sold for a very healthy $44.99 after 7 bids from just 3 bidders. This one looked Uncirculated, but may have not quite made the grade.
12/4/17
Kansas. 1954 Kansas Territory Centennial Coin. Location box uninscribed. Condition just Extremely Fine. Start 99¢ plus $4.99. Sold for $3.84 after 3 bids by 3 bidders. Pretty high for a token usually easily found in Uncirculated condition. See the example that ended just two days ago.
12/4/17

Michigan, Holly. 1965 Centennial Half Dollar. Start $5.85, Postage $3.50. No bids. For the week ending January 13 it became a BIN item for a slightly lower price of $4.35. Still no bids, so the seller ended the listing unsold.
12/4/17
New York, Springville. 1984 Sesquicentennial Dollar. Start $5.85 plus $3.50. No bids. The following week the start was lowered to $4.85. When there were still no bids, in early January the price was further lowered to $4.35, and when that did not do the trick, the seller ended the token unsold.
12/5/17
Alaska, Sitka. 1963 Alaska’s Historical Capital Chamber of Commerce Dollar. Start $1.59. Postage $1.10. No bids. Not relisted.
12/5/17
Hawaii. 2010 Queen Liliuokalani Hapaumi Dala. Small 1/10 Ounce Proof. Mintage unknown. Not previously listed. In box, case and capsule as issued by the Royal Hawaiian Mint. It had been offered for $50.00 Buy It Now for a while, and sold on December 5. This is the same item the RHM currently sells for $20.00 on their website www.royalhawaiianmint.com.
12/5/17
Illinois. 1980 Illinois Dollar. Lot of 12 of these pieces by the Papal Mint, all still in their original packet as issued. I was the only bidder at the $12.00 with FREE shipping start. It seemed like a great deal, but they never showed up - so I guess it was not all that good! I have dealt with the seller many times and know him to be very reputable, so I am blaming the Post Office for screwing up!
12/5/17
Kansas, Ellsworth. 1967 Centennial Half Dollar. Described by the seller as “RARE!!” Start $1.99 plus 85¢ for postage. It sold for $3.53 after 3 bids by 2 bidders.
12/6/17
Indiana, Crown Point. 1959 125th Anniversary Half Dollar. About Uncirculated, toned, dirty, and spotty, but a hard-to-find token. Start $4.99 plus $2.70 shipping. It brought $17.50 after 4 bids by two bidders, and was worth it!
12/6/17
Missouri, St. Charles. 1969 Bicentennial Half Dollar. Start $4.99 plus $2.75. Listed without a bid until January 18 when the listing was ended because “the item is no longer available”.
12/6/17
Pennsylvania, Mount Carmel. 1972 110th Anniversary Half Dollar. Start $4.99 plus $2.75. Listed without a bid until January 18 when the listing was ended because “the item is no longer available”, just like the St. Charles, Missouri piece listed above. Same seller for both.
12/7/17
Alaska. “1878” Alaska Dollar. Nickel Silver. I had not seen this Dollar in this finish before. The start was 99¢ plus $5.50 shipping. There were just two bids, and I won this new piece for just $2.24. Neat!
12/7/17
South Dakota. 2016 Sioux Indian Dollar. Issued by Jamul Sovereign Nation in California. A nice shiny ounce of silver. Start $19.95 plus $3.25. Sold for $24.50 after 5 bids by 4 bidders.
12/8/17
Hawaii, Maui. 1999 Maui Trade Dollar struck in silver. Edge lettered 1 OZ. .999 AG 241. It was priced at $85.00 Buy It Now, plus $3.00 for shipping. Still available, but the price is down to $75.00. The current listing ends on March 3. The 4 line reverse with date variety.
12/8/17
Michigan, Marshall. 1980 Sesquicentennial - Education Oak Dollar. Antiqued Brass. Start $9.99 with FREE shipping. After a week it dropped to $8.99 and has remained there, except on January 20 it was made a BIN item. It is still available as of February 5.
12/8/17
Montana. 1964 Territorial Centennial Dollar struck in silver. Encapsulated by NGC and overgraded as MS-67. The start was 99¢ and after 11 bids by 8 bidders it sold for $37.00. I could not tell which variety it was because the edge is not visible in the slab.
12/8/17
Pennsylvania, Erie. 1963 Perry Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. Washington crossing the Delaware design. Mintage 10,000. Catalog value $2.00. A very common issue that I have not listed in these monthly reports before. It is just so common, I never bothered to track one. So, this one is quite abundant, with - undoubtedly - hundreds of specimens being offered on Ebay during the 5+ years I have been doing these lists, but this is the first time I have written about it. This one was priced way too high at $9.00 plus $3.00 shipping and lasted at the original price until January 26 when the seller ended the listing unsold.
12/8/17
Texas, Houston. 1981 Energy Dollar with One Troy Ounce Silver Trade Unit reverse. I don’t know anything about this issue, but I had not seen it before and since it says “Energy Dollar” I thought it might be listable. Besides, it was reasonably priced, and no one was bidding on it. So I bid and won it at the opening price of $20.00 plus $3.00 for postage.
12/8/17
Wyoming, Cheyenne. 1964-1965 Frontier Nights Frontier Buck. Sold to a single bidder at the $4.99 plus $2.99 opening bid. About Uncirculated.
12/9/17

12/9/17
Hawaii, Maui. Maui Dollar Collector’s Set #1, 1992 - 1996, the first 5 issues. In folder stamped with registration number 06696. The starting bid was $14.95 (BIN $30.00) plus $5.00 postage. It lasted until the week ending February 3 when it sold to a single bidder at the opening price.
12/9/17
Illinois, Cairo. 1961 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar. About Uncirculated. Start $16.50 with FREE shipping. Listed without a bid until January 12 when the seller terminated the listing.
12/9/17
Indiana, Greensburg. 1959 Centennial Half Dollar. Sold to a single bidder at the $9.99 with FREE shipping opening.
12/9/17
Iowa, Larchwood. 1972 Centennial Half Dollar. Start $5.55. Postage $2.85. Listed until December 26 when the seller ended the listing “because the item is no longer available”. But it came right back in January as a BIN item at the same price. The current listing, ending February 10 offers the item for 12% off ($4.88) and has the Make Offer option added as well.
12/9/17
Maine, Old Town. 1965 125th Anniversary Half Dollar. Start $14.50 with FREE shipping. Listed until January 14 as an Auction item, then changed to a BIN item at the same price. Ebay suggested another one by a different seller for $9.99, BIN, and it was even a bit nicer. Neither one would be a good buy.
12/9/17
Massachusetts, Dennis-Harwich. 1975 Cape Cod Dollar. Start $13.50 with FREE shipping. This one remained an Auction item until January 14, when it was converted to a Buy It Now item at the same cost. The current listing ends February 13.
12/9/17
South Carolina, Oconee County. 1968 Centennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $10.00. Start was $1.99 plus $1.25 more for shipping. I feel lucky to have won this scarce item as the second bidder for $2.25. This is the first of this issue I have seen on Ebay since starting these monthly posts over 5 years ago.
12/9/17
Washington, Yakima. 1967 Central Washington Fair Half Dollar. Start $7.55. Shipping $2.85. Listed until December 26 without a bid when the seller ended the listing because “the item is no longer available”.
12/10/17
Hawaii. 1875-1899 Princess Kaiulani Akahi Dala struck in golden anodized aluminum still in its Royal Hawaiian Mint mailing folder. Start was $69.00 plus $3.99. With no bids, the starting price was lowered to $19.99 for the sale ending January 9. There were no bids at first, but on its second 10 day offering a couple bidders spotted it and they placed 6 bids between the pair of them, sending the sale price up to $24.50.
12/10/17
Hawaii, Maui. 2002 Maui Dollar. Start $3.49. Postage $3.25. When it did not sell, the seller made it a BIN item with FREE shipping for $7.99 - which is even higher than when it had a $3.49 start. That didn’t work, so on December 20 the lot was withdrawn because “there was an error in the listing”
12/10/17
Kansas, Peabody. 1971 Centennial Dollar. This was a BIN item for only $19.88 plus $4.50, and guess what - it is still available at the same price today with the current ending date of February 10.
12/10/17
Michigan, Mt. Pleasant. 1964 Centennial Half Dollar. Start $6.00 plus 70¢ shipping. When no one bid it became a BIN item at the same price. Listed until February 4 when the seller ended the lot unsold.
12/10/17
Montana, Sidney. 1986 75th Anniversary Dollar in Silver, numbered 61. Sold to a single bidder at the $49.00 with FREE shipping start. Less than half what the last one brought. Guess the market for these is pretty thin.
12/10/17
Ohio, Brunswick. 1965 SesquiCentennial Half Dollar. Choice Uncirculated. No one was bidding, so I placed a last minute bid and won it for the $1.99 plus 85¢ opening bid. Seemed cheap to me!
12/10/17
Ohio, Bryan. 1940 Centennial Dime. Choice Uncirculated. Sold to a lone bidder (me) for the $1.99 plus 85¢ opening bid. Another item I won from the seller of the last item.

12/12/17
California, Los Angeles. 1981 Bicentennial Dollars, Set of 6 Struck in Sterling Silver. Start $92.95 plus $4.50 postage. Two weeks later the start was lowered to $82.95. After another two weeks it dropped to $79.95. That was it. The seller ended his listing unsold.
12/12/17
Colorado, Fort Morgan. 1959 Rush to the Rockies Centennial Half Dollar. The start was $3.95 plus $4.25 postage, and after 11 bids by 5 bidders, it sold for an incredible $38.77! That just shows you the potential of MTCs!
12/12/17
Kansas. 1941 Coronado Quarto Centennial Nickel struck in Zinc. About Uncirculated - and as usual - one side is tarnished and the other bright. Start $10.00. Postage $2.50. Still being offered for the same opening bid, but now the postage has gone up to $3.00. The current listing is set to expire on February 17.
12/12/17
Nevada, Sparks. 1966 4th of July Celebration Half Dollar, numbered version, this one numbered 630. Part of a set of 3 Nevada commemorative medals - this one the only MTC. The start was $10.00 ($13.00 BIN) plus $2.50 postage. It is still available for the same auction and BIN prices, but the postage has gone up to $3.00. The current listing ends on February 17.
12/12/17
Ohio, Piqua. 1976 U.S. Bicentennial Bicent. A new one to me. Not previously listed, although I do list a generic Bicent utilizing the obverse die of this one, but without an issuing location noted on the back. I was the only bidder at the 99¢ plus $2.95 opening bid. A nice addition to my collection!
12/12/17
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. 1926 U.S. Secquicentennial Treasure Island Doubloon. The most common variety, the 2 sided one with the Liberty Bell and a sailing ship. Part of a lot of 3 commemorative medals - this being the only MTC. Start was 1¢ with FREE shipping. It sold for $5.89 after 5 bids by 5 different bidders. Thai is less than what the one MTC usually brings alone!
12/12/17
Washington, Kitsap County. 1965 County Fair Half Dollar. This was an Almost Uncirculated example that sold for the opening bid of $5.00 plus $3.50 postage.
12/12/17
Washington, Seattle. 1962 Century 21 Exposition Dollar. This one slabbed and graded MS-68 by NGC. MS-68 is a pretty spectacular grade, but the token looked like a typical Uncirculated piece to me. The start was 99¢ with FREE shipping. It sold for $19.50 after 6 bids by 6 different bidders.
12/13/17
Nevada, Carson City. 1964 Centennial Dollar. Sold to a single bidder at the $6.70 plus $2.61 opening bid.
12/13/17
New Jersey, Wildwood. Undated token using the sailing ship side if the Philadelphia, Pa Sesquicentennial Treasure Island Doubloon and a reverse inscribed LOU’S / WILDWOOD / N. J. I won’t be listing this because without the other side of the Philadelphia piece, it doesn’t commemorate anything! This one found no bids at its $4.99 plus $2.50 opening bid. Not relisted.
12/13/17
Washington. 1989 10 Mills Sales Tax Token. Lot of 36, each on its original card. Start $19.99 plus $3.75. Sold for $26.00 after 4 bids by 2 bidders.

12/15/17
Hawaii. King Kamehameha 1996 Royal Hawaiian Mint Mahalo Dala in golden bronze. Offered for bid starting at $45.00 with FREE shipping. The coin looked slightly circulated and had a couple minor spots on the obverse. There were no bids, and it came back as a BIN item for $42.00, then $62.00. It remains available at that price today, with the current listing ending on February 24.
12/15/17
Unknown Location. Undated Rhinestone Cow Chip Dollar. I don’t know anything about this one. It has a cartoon-like image of a cow wearing a cowboy hat, the legend RHINESTONE COW CHIP and the denomination. Probably not a municipal, but cheap so I bid and won it for the opening bid - $2.00 plus 70¢ shipping.
12/16/17
Hawaii, Waikiki. 2010 Waikiki Dala One Ounce Silver. Hula Dancer version. Mintage reported by the Royal Hawaiian Mint as only 115 pieces! Offered for $34.99 with FREE shipping. The RHM currently sells this piece for $45.00. There were no bids until February 4, when it was finally purchased. I am typing this up on February 15, and in researching the current price, was surprised to see the low mintage report - I don't think it was not noted on the site the last time I looked, which was when I bought mine, about 3 years ago. Had I been aware of it, I would have bought this piece from the Ebay seller. Instead I just now bought two specimens from the RHM as future traders, and advise you to grab one from them for your collection as well! Like the other modern Royal Hawaiian Mint issues, these pieces are beautifully made and well packaged in very nice boxes. Check out their website www.royalhawaiianmint.com as about half of the items the sell qualify as Municipals.
12/17/17

12/20/17
South Dakota, Mount Rushmore. Undated Lucky Buck. A modern 3 inch tourist’s “souvenir Penny” type item. Not listed because of the word LUCKY. If it had said "Mount Rushmore Buck" I would have listed it, but lucky coins are excluded from the listing. I bought it anyway as I also collect South Dakota exonumia, and I had not seen this one before. I was the only bidder at its $7.99 (too high!) plus $3.95 (too high) start.
12/21/17
Hawaii, Kona. 1974 Kona Dollars - both the numbered and unnumbered varieties in the usual antiqued bronze finish. Offered for $39.99 with FREE shipping. There were no bids, but on February 18, when it was on sale for 8% off ($36.79) it sold.

Hawaii, Maui. 1992-2006 Maui Dollars, complete run to 2006 in nice Chamber of Commerce holders, each holding 5 coins. Each case is numbered, but the seller did not picture the covers where the registration number are. The 15 coins were offered for a start of $59.50 plus $5.50 shipping. There were no bids and it came back at the same price, but Buy It Now. The lot sold on January 3.
12/23/17
Washington, Whidbey Island. 1936 Seventh Annual Coupeville Indians Water Festival Half Dollar. An especially choice one, Uncirculated or very close. It looked better than mine, so I bid $36.88 on an opening bid of $29.95 plus $3.00 shipping. Unfortunately, one other fellow wanted it too and bid more than that, winning it for $37.88 as the only other bidder.
12/24/17

The following day it was made a BIN item at $55.00, and then $49.00 where it remains today. The current listing ends on February 24. At the bottom of the page Ebay suggested I might be interested in another set by a different seller that could be had for $99.00 with FREE shipping.
12/24/17
Hawaii, Waikiki. 1996 Waikiki Dala, Hula Dancer design. One ounce Prooflike Silver. This seller had two pieces offered as two separate lots. Both started at 99¢ plus $2.99 postage. The first one sold for $23.19 after 13 bids by 10 bidders, and then several hours later the other sold for $19.20 after 9 bids by 7 bidders. Ten days earlier the same seller had offered the same coins unsuccessfully at a $50.00 plus $2.99 each.
12/24/17
Texas, Winkler County. 1960 Golden Jubilee Half Dollar. A nice uncirculated one that sold for the opening bid of $1.00 plus 70¢ postage. A bargain!
12/25/17
Hawaii, Maui. 1992 to 1996, the first 5 years of the Maui Dollars in a display case numbered 08240. Start was $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping On January 21 the start was dropped to $30.00, then a week later to $25.00 - then the postage was made FREE, but the start remained $25.00. The listing was then ended unsold.
12/25/17
Hawaii, Maui. 1997 to 2001, the second 5 years of the Maui Dollars in a display case numbered 03647. Pretty much the same price history as the last item: $35.00 + $5.00, $30.00 +$5.00, $25.00 + $5.00 then $25.00 with FREE shipping. But for this set, the seller tried another method. On February 11 the price was dropped to a start of just $1.00 with $3.00 shipping - now it has to sell, right? Well, the seller put a minimum price on this one, which was not disclosed. It did sell, to a single bidder for the hidden reserve of $20.00 plus $3.00 shipping.

Maryland, Williamsport. 1962 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar. Start $1.99 plus $1.25. Listed until January 13 without a bid. Too bad - this would have been a nice bargain for someone.

Nevada, Las Vegas. “1907” (1980) Las Vegas Twenty Dollar token with crude imitation of a Saint Gaudens $20 obverse and the “Showgirl” reverse. A die variety I did not have. I was the only bidder at the $7.00 plus $5.00 shipping start. I didn’t like the $5.00 shipping fee very much, so I bought another item ($5.00 BIN +$5 shipping) the seller had been offering for a few months, but I hadn’t wanted to pay the high shipping on either. I figured the seller would combine the two shipping fees, but I figured wrong. The two tokens cost me $12.00 plus $10.00 shipping!

Texas, San Antonia. 1988 Texas Folklife Festival Dollar. Mintage 5,000. Catalog value $2.00. The seller had this available at a $6.50 plus $3.50 start, which is of course, too much. There have been no bids and it remains available for the same start two months later. I am debating dropping the 35 or so Folklife Festival tokens from the catalog. I don’t think it was a real community event, and they don’t commemorate anything.
