Idaho, Coeur D’ Alene. 1963 Idaho Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 12,000. Catalog value $4.00. Offered for $3.70 plus a very special postage rate of $11.22. No bids. Looks like the seller decided the problem was that he was asking too much for the coin, and the next week the start was 17¢ less - $3.53 plus $11.22. The next week it went down to $3.40 and it stayed at that level until April 26 when he listed it for $2.99 plus a more believable $1.99 postage charge - and guess what…it sold to a single bidder.
4/4/14

Hmm - maybe I should stop buying these.

Arizona, Lake Havasu City. Set of the first 6 issues, 1972 to 1977 in plastic case of issue. You know the story on these…listed at very high prices ($100+ each) on the London Bridge Rotary Club website, but with high mintages and low catalog values. The start for the set was just 99¢ plus $2.49 for shipping. After 15 bids they sold for $41.20.
4/7/14
Michigan, Sanford 1970 Centennial Souvenir Coin. Comes in two varieties that I know of - golden bronze and some sort of oxidized grey metal, this being the second variety. Both seem equally scarce. 4/8/14

4/15/14
South Dakota, Gary. 1972 Centennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage, but scarce. Catalog value $10.00. I was the lucky bidder for this one that started and ended at $4.99 plus $1.95 shipping. A giveaway!

4/20/14
Oklahoma, Talequah. 1991 Centennial Dollar. A new listing for me - the first I have seen. This was a slightly circulated token offered for $11.50 plus $3.50 shipping. Only one other bidder was willing to go the price, so I won it for $12.00.
4/21/14
Hawaii, Maui. 1998 Maui Trade Dollar in silver. Mintage reported as 2,500. Catalog price (1999) $20.00. It was offered for an opening of $80.00 but sold to someone at an unknown price with the Or Best Offer option. I sure wish ebay would say what that offer was, but they keep it secret.
4/21/14
Pennsylvania, Shamokin. (1964) Centennial Half Dollar. Double headed version with the Indian head design on both sides. No reverse denomination and redemption information - so some may not call it a Municipal Token. Because of that I catalog this variety a just little higher than the regular type, even though it is much scarcer. No mintage info. Catalog value $5.00. Start was $1.99 plus $1.95 shipping. There were 3 bids and it sold for $5.50.
4/22/14
Arizona, Lake Havasu City. 1989/90 London Bridge Dollar. Copper, the standard issue. Uncertain mintage. Catalog value $3.00, and available on the London Bridge Rotary Club website for $15.00. Iowa, Clare. 1976 Irish Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $4.50. Offered for a start of $4.50 ($6.50 BIN) plus a reasonable $1.25 postage fee. No bids this week, or the next, so the seller ended the listing unsold.
4/22/14
Iowa, Oxford. 1969 Centennial Dollar. Mintage 1,000. Catalog value $7.50. This example was offered for a start of $4.99 plus $2.25 shipping, but there were no bids and it was not relisted.
4/22/14
New York, Fairport. 1967 Centennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $3.00. Offered for $7.50 with FREE shipping. There were no bids so the seller put it into his store for $7.99, still with the FREE shipping. It is still there 2+ months later if you need it.
4/22/14
Pennsylvania, Williamsport. 1956 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $5.00. This was a choice specimen, offered for a $2.95 start plus just 95¢ shipping. Not a bad deal, but there were no bids this week. When put up the following week at the same price, for some reason it drew 6 bids and it sold for $6.08. That’s more like it!
4/23/14
Colorado, Holyoke. 1963 Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $3.50. The seller wanted $8.79 to start this one, but even with a low 99¢ postage fee, was unable to attract a single bid. The next week it was $7.33. Then up to $11.56 for a couple weeks, then $7.99. On June 11 it was passed again at $11.56, and is currently available for an opening bid of $8.23 - or $11.56 if you would prefer to Buy It Now and avoid the competition.
4/23/14
Hawaii, Kona Coast. 1979 Kona Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $3.00. Offered for $7.80 with FREE shipping. No bids this week, and offered repeatedly ever since, still at the same price, but now as a BIN with a Make Offer option. Still available as of June 5.
4/23/14
Hawaii. 1991 Princess Kaiulani 100 Dala Gold. An intriguing issue in that this (and one other similar issue) is the highest value, but smallest size Hawaiian Municipal token. A nice, proof-like Royal Hawaiian Mint issue, and quite scarce. The gold content is just 1/20 ounce. Sold to a single bidder at the $260.00 plus $5.60 shipping opening price.
4/23/14
Indiana, Mt. Vernon. 1966 sesquicentennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $7.50. This one which was kind of spotted and stained was offered for $6.98 plus $1.15 shipping. No bids this week, or when offered again at the same price the following week. So the seller upped his price to $10.66 plus $1.15 shipping and stuck it in his store, where it has been ever since. The price did go down to $7.44 for a week toward the end of May, but then it went up to $10.66 again. Still available June 10.
4/23/14
Iowa, Emmetsburg. 2010 Irish Dollar. The late dates are increasingly hard to find. This one up for sale at $4.99 plus $3.32 shipping. Offered unsuccessfully this week and the next before the listing was ended by the seller.
4/23/14
Washington, Colville. 1976 U. S. Bicentennial Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $5.00. The starting price was $1.99 plus $1.20 shipping. It was too cheap - I couldn’t resist it and won it for $2.25, with only one other person bidding.
4/24/14
Pennsylvania, Nanticoke. 1968 175th Anniversary Half Dollar. This one struck in golden brass, which is the commoner composition for this issue. Unknown mintage, catalog value $3.50. Offered as being a rare issue from Ontario - but no…they are definitely Pennsylvania. Offered for an opening of $7.59 plus 89¢ postage, but no one bid. Raised slightly to $7.85 the following week - still unsuccessfully. Then raised to $11.35…then $7.99…then $11.35 again. Currently available for bid starting at $8.23 or $11.35 Buy It Now. Better jump on it now, I suspect it will be going up again when this listing ends on June 22!
4/25/14
Alaska. “1962” $5 Alaska Boosters Souvenir Money. Variety with standing bear on obverse, one of 10 designs. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $4.00. 4/25/14
Alaska. “1962” $5 Alaska Boosters Souvenir Money. Variety with salmon on obverse. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $4.00. Offered for $19.99 plus $2.95 shipping. No bids.
4/25/14
Washington, Olympia. 1933 25¢ Oyster Money. Wood. I have decided that I will probably list some of the Washington and Oregon wooden issues of the 1930’s. They are already listed in the Depression Scrip and Wooden Money catalogs, but they also seem to fit into the Municipal realm. They have a denomination, celebrate an event (this one the visit of “Old Ironsides” to their port), and have an expiration date. I have decided to list the “coin-like” issues but currently not the “bill-like” issues. Who knows, I may change my mind before the next edition comes out. Anyway, this one started off at just 1¢, drew 16 bids, and sold for $58.88.
4/26/14
Hawaii. 1984 Queen Lilioukalani 25th Anniversary of Statehood Dala struck in golden bronze. This one in a plastic flip with a paper indicating it was produced on the First Day of mintage. The paper also notes that the mintage was 10,000 pieces, but Medcalf and Russel report a mintage of 5,000 pieces. I go with the second figure based on the frequency it is available for sale. I suspect the authorized mintage was 10,000 but demand did not necessitate that many being produced. I catalog this issue at $5.00. The seller started his at 99¢ and three bidders pushed the sale price up to $2.37 plus $1.95 shipping.
4/26/14
Iowa, Clare. 1973 Irish Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $6.00. Second issue in this 10 year series. This one started off (and ended after just 1 bid) at 99¢ plus $3.00 shipping.
4/26/14
Montana, Sidney. 1969 Mon-Dak Dollar. Mintage 1,500 (unconfirmed). Catalog value $5.00. First of a five year series. Up for bid at an opening of $9.99 plus $2.99 shipping. That was just too much and it did not sell. Lowered to $7.99 for a week and that didn’t work either. The following week the seller started this token at $2.99 and it attracted two bids - unfortunately both by the same bidder - so it sold for the opening bid of $2.99 plus another $2.99 shipping.

Relisted one more time at this price then the start was lowered to $6.99 for a week then up to $7.99 for a week. The next week the seller must have found that “sweet spot” at $8.99 because it has remained at that level ever since. Still available on June 20.

Ohio, Hamilton. Undated Carl Schwab Personal Dollar Token. While this one looks like the municipal tokens we collect, it was actually made by an early (1960’s) municipal collector to hand out to dealers and other collectors to remind them of his collecting interests - Souvenir Coins and Butler County Tokens. It was “Redeemable Till I’m Broke”. I list it at the back of the book with other miscellaneous tokens. Catalog value $5.00. This one started at $7.99 plus $2.99. When it did not sell at that level it was listed one more week for $5.99 plus $2.99 - still no bids and the listing was ended.

Oregon, Ashland. 1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollars. The mintage of the tokens was 12,500 - divided between two varieties. This was for a pair of the tokens made into earrings! As of June 13 the lot remains available, still for that opening bid of $49.95, but now with a $1.95 postage fee.

Catalog value $12.50, but going down to $10.00 in the next edition. The seller was unable to entice any bids at his $9.99 start (plus $1.99 shipping) this week or the following week, so he put it in his store for sale at the same price. It is still available, as of June 15 and now has a Best Offer option.

Wyoming, Gillette. 1976 75th Anniversary Half Buck. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $4.50. Up for bid at $15.00 plus 50¢ postage. No sale. It drives me crazy when this happens, but the seller decided to raise his price to $18.50 and try again. Still no sale. Hawaii, Maui. 2005 Maui Dollar. Price at $10.80 with FREE shipping. Looks like the seller was trying to catch that wave of high prices for modern Hawaiian exonumia…but it spent its week on ebay without a bid. Down a buck to $9.80 the next week, then to $8.80. The following week it was put up for $8.80 again, but this time with an Or Best Offer option. Finally sold to someone making an offer, but ebay does not disclose what the selling price was. Cowabunga, dude!
