8/1/15

Washington, Port Angeles.  1962 Centennial Dollar.  This auction was for a pair of these Dollars, each folded into a compartment in a 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of sturdy paper printed with information about Candidate Elmer Critchfield, “your progressive 2nd District Commissioner”.  Mintage for the entire issue was 22,500 - it is not known how many were distributed this way.  I was only bidder for these questionable political endorsements at $5 plus 1.95 shipping.

8/2/15

Pennsylvania, Mars. 1973 Centennial Commemorative Coin.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $8.50.  Up for bid starting at $39.99 plus $4.54 shipping.  There were no bids, and it was  relisted until Sept 10, still without a bid.

8/2/15

Iowa, Lewis. 1954 (Centennial) Nickel.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $10.00.  Start was $2.00 and after 3 bids it sold for $5.50 + $2.00.  Extremely Fine, as usual.

8/2/15

Oregon, Baker County.  2000 New Millennium Baker County $2.00 Rotary Club Bucks. Too new for the last edition of my catalog.  Offered for $4.95 plus $1.95, but the listing was ended because “there was an error in the listing” - I didn’t see it.

8/3/15

Nevada, Virginia City.  1921 Comstock ’49 Camp Half Dollar with circle counterstamp. Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $17.50.  Badly corroded with parts completely gone.  Graded GENUINE by NGC.  $100 + $2.00 start. There were no bids.  Two more tries at that price, then down to a $90 + $2.50 start.  There was still no interest, so the listing was ended.  It reappeared a few months later, being offered for $45.00 plus $2.50 during the single week ending December 10.

there were still no bids.

8/3/15

Illinois, Streator. 1968 Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 2,500.  Catalog value $6.00.  Up for sale at a Buy It Now price of $14.99 plus $2.54 shipping.   Listing ended a couple weeks later by the seller because “the item is no longer available”.

8/6/15

Michigan, Greenville. 1944 (1948) Centennial Quarter.  This one in Extremely fine Condition - maybe a little better.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog Value $5.00.  Offered at a too-high starting bid of $9.95 with FREE shipping. When he received no bids, the seller raised the start to $15.25, which still elicited no bids. The piece was listed until at least October 6 at that same price, the last month also with a Best Offer option.

8/6/15

Nevada, Las Vegas.  1969 Elk’s Club 35th Helldorado Good For 1 Drink at Elks Saloon token.  Holed, aluminum.  Start was $1.99 plus $1.95 shipping.  I was the only bidder.  These Las Vegas Helldorado tokens MIGHT be included in the next edition.

8/6/15

Kansas.  1961 Official Centennial Coin for Rice County.  Unknown mintage.  This county is somewhat hard to find, but there are a few out there.  Started at $1.99 + 95¢ shipping. Sold for $6.38 after 4 bids.

8/7/15

Ohio, Mogadore. 1957 SesquiCentennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  This one in a non-lustrous Extremely Fine condition.  Start was $3.49 + 71¢ postage.  There were no bids and it was relisted at $2.41 + 71¢.  When there were still no bids, the listing was ended.

Pennsylvania, Erie. 1963 Perry Sesquicentennial Half Dollar with PERMISSIBLE / COPY FOR / REDEEMABLE / COINS on the obverse  Unknown Mintage.  Catalog value $6.00 in Gilt Brass, as this one was.  Unfortunately this copy was in a truly ugly Very Fine condition. There were no bids at the 99¢ + $2.54 start, so the item became a 99¢ starting bid or $1.99 BIN item - either option plus + $2.54 shipping. Then just a $1.99 plus $2.54 BIN listing which continues on to at least the end of its current listing on October 16.

8/8/15

Hawaii. 1998 King Kamehameha Ten Hawaii Silver Dollars $10 Dala, proof silver.  Mintage 50.  Not cataloged in the last edition of my catalog.  Despite the date, this piece was not struck until 2004.  I bid to see if I could pick it up cheap as a trader, and was astounded that I was the only bidder at the $125.00 plus $2.10 shipping start!  This issue is currently available on the Royal Hawaiian Mint website for $300.00.

8/8/15

Pennsylvania, Corry.  1961 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  It was offered for $4.99 with FREE shipping, and I was the only bidder.

8/9/15

Hawaii. 1891 Silver Queen Lilioukalani “Huth Medallion” style Akahi Dala copy with globe on the reverse. Signed HPM. Part of lot of 5 Hawaiian medallions with only one other MTC, a  2002 Maui Dollar in Nickel Silver.  One of the non MTC pieces was a dollar sized silver piece, and the remaining pieces were Nickel Silver.  All appeared slightly circulated.  There was a $39.95 start plus $5.00 postage, which turned into $56.11 when the four bids were tallied.  The Queen Liliuokalani piece catalogs for $20.00, and the Maui Dollar $2.50.

8/10/15

Hawaii, Maui. 2002 Maui Dollar, Gold Plated version.  There was a $6.99 start with $2.95 shipping, and it sold for $18.15 after two bids.  The gold-plated Maui Dollars are especially hard to find - don’t believe the published mintage figures.  The actual number produced was usually MUCH lower than what it says on the certificate, which indicates the maximum authorized mintage.

8/10/15

New York, Stony Point. 1965 Centennial Half Dollar, in Golden Brass.  Mintage 800 pieces.  Catalog value $12.50.  I was only bidder at the $4.99 plus $2.99 opening.

Sold to a single bidder for the $30.00 plus $5.00 start.

8/13/15

North Dakota. 1971 Souvenir Dollar.  Mintage 4,000.  Catalog value $3.50 for the numbered edge version, $5.00 for unnumbered pieces.  Opening was  $3.95 plus $3.50 postage.  There were no bids and it was not relisted.

8/13/15

New York, Monticello. 1938 25 Cents Wooden Two bits. Large 3 inch size.  According to the token itself, it was good at any store in town and redeemable by the Chamber of Commerce, so perhaps a listable piece.  I won it for the $3.00 with FREE shipping start.

8/13/15

Iowa, Malvern. 1969 Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 1,000.  Catalog value $8.50.  This one had a $9.99 plus $1.99 start.  Again I was the only bidder - but this one cost me more than the one I won last week.

8/13/15

Hawaii. 1988 King Kamehameha / Idol Proof Silver Hawaii Dala in box of issue, with Certificate of Authenticity.  Mintage 1,500 according to the records of the Royal Hawaiian Mint.  Obsolete Catalog Value $15.00.  Offered for bid starting at $39.00 plus $3.50. There were no bids and it was not relisted.

8/14/15

Hawaii.  Queen  Lilioukalani 1993 Overthrow Dala in bezel. Slightly worn from use as jewelery. Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $20.00 back in 1999.  Sold for opening bid of $19.99 plus $5.00 shipping.

8/15/15

Ohio, Lake County.  1940 Cardboard Dime.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  I found this in a Sellers Store at a Buy It Now price of $30.99.  A little chewed up around the edges, but a decent-looking specimen.  Still there, at the same price, two months later.

8/16/15

Michigan, Fowlerville. 1961 125th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  This one was offered for a $14.50 + FREE shipping start, but received no bids.  Relisted, unsuccessfully, once more then it was placed in the Seller’s Store for $19.95 BIN until Sep 24. Then it was back to bid at $9.95 + $3 start.  No bids again so the token was back to the store for $12.95 plus $3.00 Buy It Now.  Current listing ends Nov 1.

8/16/15

Hawaii.  Undated “Honolulu Dollar” style token with Kamahameha Statue on obverse and Beach Scene on reverse.  Denomination Krown instead of Dollar. Golden brass in the larger 38.5 mm size. Start was $2.40 + $2.00 shipping and it sold for $3.53 after 3 bids.

8/16/15

Oregon, Seaside. 1949 Lewis & Clark Festival Green Plastic Half Dollar. Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $12.50.  Start was $9.99 with shipping $1.00 more.  There were 3 bids and it sold for $15.50.

8/16/15

Commonwealth of New Island. 3002 Copper One Roger.  Mintage 1,000.  Issued by a “micro nation” based in Kaukauna, Wisconsin.  Not an actual piece of real estate, but more of an imaginary landscape where Lee Mothes, the “creator” of the island claims to draw his inspiration for his real career as a landscape designer.  Apparently he will be happy to sell you a parcel of “land” on New Island, and even created this coin to facilitate trade in his own fantasy island.  I won’t  be  listing this piece for a couple reasons:  It does not commemorate any event, and the place it is said to be from does not actually exist.  I can deal with locations that actually exist, like the Conch Republic or unincorporated (and unpopulated) communities in Antarctica, but this one is a little too “out there” for me.   This piece sold for the opening bid of 99¢ plus $3.70 shipping.

8/17/15

Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. 1926 Treasure Island Doubloon.  Sailing Ship/Liberty Bell variety.  Not previously listed.  This XF specimen received just one bid at the $5.99 plus $2.00 opening.

8/19/15

Alaska, North Pole. 1967 Santa Claus House struck in Sterling Silver. Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $20.00. No sale at the $29.95 +$2.75 start. Not relisted.

8/19/15

Colorado. 1959 Gold Poke Quarter. Mintage 1,000,000 - the highest of any MTC - but now rather scarce because of the apparently irresistible urge to rip the packet open and find the promised gold ore inside.  Catalog value $10.00.  Sold to the only bidder (me) at the $3.00 plus $1.25 shipping fee.

8/19/15

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  1973 London Bridge Rotary Club Dollar. The most difficult of the early years to locate, produced only in Pewter. Mintage was 25,000.  Catalog value $10.00.  Start was 99¢ plus $2.50 shipping. After 19 bids by 5 bidders it sold for $30.00.

8/19/15

Arizona, Lake Havasu City. 1981/82 London Bridge Rotary Club Dollar struck in golden brass.  Mintage 25,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  Available on the London Bridge Rotary Club website for $39.00.  Start was 99¢ plus $2.50 shipping.  It sold for $1.04 after 2 bids.

8/20/15

California, Catalina Island. 2013 Catalina Island Film Festival Catalina “Doubloom". The “bloom” part referring to the main design - a flower.  Unknown mintage.  Too new to be cataloged.  There was a $9.99 start with FREE shipping. No bids.  Not relisted.

8/20/15

Idaho, Soda Springs. Undated Henry Stampede Dime in the usual XF/AU condition.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.00.  Start was $9.99 plus $2.65 shipping. There were no bids this week, but it was relisted and sold to a single bidder the following week.

8/20/15

Michigan, Rochester. 1969 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  The start was $1.99 plus $2.50 postage, but there were no bids. Then two more unsuccessful weeks at a 99¢ plus $2.54 start before the listing was ended unsold.

8/20/15

Montana, Helena. 1964 Official Souvenir Gold Piece. Mintage at least 1,000 - depending on edge variety - which could not be determined from the photos or description.  Two varieties list of $10.00, and one for $7.50.  Start $4.99 + $2.50. There were two bids with the item selling at $6.38. The seller immediately offered another one, but only in AU condition for the same price. There were no bids at first, but when lowered to a $2.99 start a month or so later, it attracted a single bidder - but there are still 2 days to go. It closes Oct 10.

Priced at a lofty $14.99 with FREE shipping start, but the listing was ended because “the item is no longer available”.

8/21/15

Hawaii.  “1883” King Kalakaua Akahi Dala in Gold Anodized Aluminum.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  Still in the (opened) original packaging.  Starting bid was $13.99 plus an additional $3.54 for shipping.  No one was interested in it at that price, so in September the seller raised the opening bid to $18.99 plus $3.54.  When that didn’t work either, he tried selling it as a Buy It Now item for $22.00 plus $3.54.  He listed it at that level until November 16, when he mercifully ended the listing.  Darn, sometimes it seems that no matter how hard a seller tries, he just can’t make a sale!

8/21/15

Hawaii. 1994 Princess Victoria Kaiulana Proof Silver Princess Dala, unnumbered version.  Available Buy It Now for $1,160.00 plus 99¢ shipping. The listing was ended “ because the item was lost or broken”. Hmmm.

8/21/15

8/21/15

Hawaii, Waikiki.  2014 Waikiki Silver Dala with Hula Dancer in case $99.95 plus 99¢ shipping. The item is marked “No Longer Available” by Ebay, however there is one available at the same price in the seller’s store until October 21.  The Royal Hawaiian mint currently sells the same coin for $45.00.

8/21/15

Hawaii, Waikiki.  2014 Waikiki Dala, Surfer version. Silver Proof in case Buy It Now at 99.95 plus 99¢ postage.  Ebay posted “This listing was cancelled by the seller because there was an error on the listing”, but he still has one available today,  Oct 9 for the same price.  Currently available for a much more favorable price, $45.00, on the Royal Hawaiian Mint website.

8/22/15

Indiana, New Haven. 1966 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00. Described as Prooflike - well maybe, but it was pretty spotty.  Opening bid was $4.99 plus $2.00 shipping.  When no bids were forthcoming, the seller lowered the start to a more reasonable 99¢.   After two weeks at this price a couple collectors spotted it and it sold for $3.25 +$2.00 after 2 bids.

8/22/15

8/24/15

Kansas, Coffeyville. 1958 Golden Anniversary Fair and Rodeo Quarter.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  This was a choice Uncirculated specimen, which is kind of unusual, and I won it at the opening bid of $2.95 plus $2.50 shipping.

8/24/15

Kansas, El Dorado. 1971 Centennial Dollar in Oxidized Nickel Silver.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $12.50.  Or maybe it is Oxidized Brass, which is the standard issue, cataloging for $5.00.  Hard to tell the exact tone from the photos provided.  It started at  $9.95 (BIN $14.95) with FREE shipping. When relisted the following week, the results were the same.  The seller then decided to add $3.00 for shipping.  Still no luck and it was placed in the Seller’s Store for an even higher $12.95 + $3.00.  Guess what - it is still available!  The current listing ends November 1.

There were no bids but the seller continued to offer it at the higher BIN price only. Then it was offered for a bid of  $9.95 + $3.00 for the period ending October 2. Still no bids. Currently being offered for a start of  $12.95 +$3.00 shipping for the listing ending November 1.

8/25/15

Hawaii, Maui.  1959 (60) Statehood Dollar.  Gilt brass, variety with OAHU spelled correctly, holed and still on a keychain.  Uncirculated.  Sold to a single bidder for the opening bid of 99¢ plus $2.25 shipping.

8/25/15

Hawaii, Maui. 1973 Maui Dollar in Sterling Silver.  This is the variety with puffy low clouds and the number (467) on a raised block. Mintage reportedly 752 pieces, although I suspect this number includes silver pieces of different varieties.  Catalog value $17.50.  Start was just $1.99 + $2.99 postage. After 10 Bids it sold for $38.00.

Iowa, Keosauqua. 1964 125th Anniversary Dollar.  Mintage 2,000.  Catalog value $7.50.  Start  was $9.99 plus $1.99 more for shipping.  Unfortunately, the token looks cleaned. There were no bids, ad it was placed as a Buy It Now item in the Seller’s Store at the same price. Current listing ends Oct 12.

8/26/15

Iowa, Kingsley. 1959 75th Anniversary 75¢ Piece.  Mintage 1,000 pieces.  Catalog value $17.50.  Start was $9.99 plus $1.99. I was the only bidder.

8/26/15
