MTCs on Ebay February 2017.
2/1/17
Alabama, Muscle Shoals. 1961 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 10,000. Catalog value $3.50. This XF/AU copy had a start of $6.55 plus $2.35, and sold for $8.77 after two bids from 2 bidders.
2/1/17
Arizona, Prescott. Frontier Bucks, set of the first 4 (of 5), 1978-1981. Unknown mintage. The first year catalogs for $5.00, the others for $6.00 each - total $23.00. The set of 4 coins in a plastic display easel had a $29.00 plus $4.85 start. Despite being listed for nearly 2 months at that price, bids failed to materialize, and the listing was ended on March 26.
2/1/17
Indiana, Corydon. 1966 Sesquicentennial Quarter. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $6.00. This one was offered with a very optimistic $9.99 starting bid, plus an excessive $5.50 shipping charge. Still looking for a home at the same price - but now as a Buy It Now item - in February.
2/1/17
New Jersey, Dunellen. 1962 Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $6.50. Sold to a single bidder at the $2.99 plus $2.50 opening bid.
2/1/17
Ohio, Hamilton (Old Fort Hamilton). 1966 175th Anniversary Dollar. Mintage 1,800. Catalog value $6.00. Offered starting with an opening bid of $14.99 plus $5.50 more for shipping. When no one placed a bid, it was eventually made a Buy It Now item with the same terms. Still being offered at that price two months later, on April 1.
2/2/17
Florida, Key West. 1972 Conch Republic Conch Dollar, leaping marlin variety. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $6.50. After a $1.99 plus $3.25 start this piece drew 4 bids from 2 bidders and sold for $6.50.
2/2/17
Hawaii, Hilo. 1964 Merry Monarch Festival Dollar. Mintage 5,000. Catalog value $4.00. The start was 99¢ and postage $2.75 more, but after 8 bids by 5 bidders this token sold for $9.50. The same seller sold another one February 25 for $6.50 that was bid on 4 times by 3 bidders, and a third one that sold for $8.39 after 4 bids by 4 bidders on March 8.
2/2/17
Ohio, Ashtabula. 1953 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $6.50. This one, in nearly uncirculated condition, was originally offered as a bid item at $9.95 plus $3.00 shipping. Then the seller added a $12.95 BIN option. Later the bid part was dropped and it was available only as a Buy It Now item. It is still available on April 1 at that price, but now the seller as added a Make Offer option.
2/3/17
Minnesota, Virginia. 1958 Centennial Iron Nickel. Mintage 40,000. Catalog value $2.50. The coin was in only XF condition but had a very low start, 99¢ Canadian (74¢ U.S.). Unfortunately it had a very high shipping cost to the United States - $5.95 ($3.45) which is probably the reason it did not receive a bid. Actually, this piece is very easy to find in choice uncirculated grades, so why even bother with one in XF? So-Called Dollar collectors catalog it as HK-518a.
2/3/17
(New York, Albany). 1994-1995 New Netherland Museum Henry Hudson Daalder. Unknown mintage. Not previously cataloged. I won this souvenir piece for the opening bid of 99¢ plus $2.40 shipping.
2/3/17
North Dakota. 1964 Statehood 75th Anniversary Half Dollar, golden brass, large date variety. Mintage reportedly 881. Catalog value $4.50. Offered for $4.95 plus $2.67 shipping. No bids. Relisted until March 18 with no results.
2/3/17
Oregon, Corvallis. 1957 Centennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $6.00. This issue is typically found in XF or AU condition, and fully uncirculated ones are few and far between. This one was a very nice uncirculated piece, so I bid. I was the only bidder and I won it for the $8.95 plus $1.25 start.
2/3/17
Pennsylvania, Waynesboro. 1963 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 2,500. Catalog value $4.00. This specimen was neatly holed at the top and suspended from a black pin-back ribbon by a couple jump rings- the first holed piece I have seen. Offered for $8.50 plus $4.00. There were no bids, and it has continued to be listed at the same price ever since. The current listing ends on May 5. If the seller ever lowers his price, I might bid, but at a total cost of $12.50, it is just too much for me.
2/3/17
Texas, Dallas. 1976 U.S. Bicentennial $10 Discount Private issue of Ricardo Lopez. Mintage 1,000. Not previously cataloged. This About Uncirculated specimen was sold to a single bidder at the $5.90 plus $2.65 opening bid.
2/4/17
Kansas, El Dorado. 1971 Centennial Dollar. Looks like the oxidized nickel-silver variety, but it may well be the much more common oxidized brass regular issue. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $12.50 (for the OX NS variety). Offered for an opening bid of $4.99 plus $2.75, this token (featuring the Wizard of Oz characters on the reverse) did not attract a bid. It quickly became a BIN item, first at the same price, then for a dollar less. That is what it is still available for in the current listing, which ends on April 7
2/5/17
Hawaii. 1959 Crossroads of the Pacific Souvenir Coin. Variety struck in golden brass. Mintage 10,000. Catalog value $5.00. This one had a 99¢ plus $3.75 start, attracted 6 bids from 5 bidders, and sold for $9.50. A So-Called Dollar, HK-549.
2/5/17
Maine, Old Town. 1965 125th Anniversary Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $5.00. Sold to a single bidder for the $3.95 plus $2.95 opening bid.
2/5/17
New York, Delmar. 1961 Fire Department 50th Anniversary. Mintage 5,000. Catalog value $4.00. Sold to a single bidder at the 99¢ plus $2.60 opening bid.
2/7/17
Alaska, Anchorage. 1968 The Pines Trade Dollar. Unknown mintage. Not cataloged. This token is often collected by MTC collectors because it looks kinda like a MTC - but it isn’t. While it says TRADE DOLLAR, it does not commemorate anything and is strictly a trade token. This one, numbered 0852, was offered for $5.00 plus $3.00 for shipping, but did not receive a bid and was not relisted.
2/8/17
Arizona, Lake Havasu City. 1988/1989 London Bridge Dollar. Mintage 15,000. Catalog value $3.00. Up for bid with a $1.99 plus $2.95 start, but it received no bids and was not relisted.
2/9/17
Minnesota, Rush City. 1973 (74) Centennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $5.00. This about uncirculated example sold for $2.85 plus $1.25 after a $1.99 start and two bids. A bargain!
2/9/17
Montana, Billings. 1968 50th Anniversary State Fair and Rodeo Dollar, struck in nickel silver. Proof like version in Franklin Mint cardboard holder. Mintage 1,050 (or 1,149) in this finish plus another 5,000 in standard uncirculated. Catalog value $6.50. This one was priced at a reasonable $9.99 with FREE shipping but there were just no bids. It is still available as a Buy It Now item for the same cost, with its current listing on April 29.
2/9/17
Ohio, Springboro. 1965 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $5.00. Sold to a single bidder at the $2.50 plus $1.00 opening bid.
2/9/17
Pennsylvania, Indiana. 1966 SesquiCentennial Dollar, Silver clad version. Mintage 965. Catalog value $12.50. The lot received no bids at the $9.99 with FREE shipping start the first week, so I placed my bid and won it as the only bidder at the end of the second weekly listing. Not hard to find right now, but I think it has potential.
2/10/17
Illinois, Genoa. 1961 125th Anniversary Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $6.50. The start was $3.00 and the same amount again for shipping. It was offered until Feb 21 when the listing was ended unsold.
2/10/17
Kansas, Great Bend. 1972 Centennial Dollar. Mintage 3,000. Catalog value $6.00. The $4.95 plus $2.61 start has failed to entice a single bid in over two months now. The current listing, now a BIN item at the same price, ends on April 14.
2/10/17
Louisiana, Lake Charles. 1967 Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage c. 5,000. Catalog value $5.00. Started at $1.99 plus $1.25 postage. Sold for $2.50 after 3 bids by 2 bidders.
2/10/17
Minnesota, Chisholm. 1958 Minnesota Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 5,000. Catalog value $6.50. Described as uncirculated by the seller, but to me it was a choice AU - but still better than average for this issue. The golden finish was worn off both figures’ cheeks on the obverse, and there was an abundance of contact marks in the obverse and reverse fields. The start was $9.99 plus $2.80, and it sold for $10.49 to the second bidder.
2/10/17
Wisconsin, Delavan. 1961 125th Anniversary Half Dollar. Mintage 2,500. Catalog value $5.00. The sale was for a pair of these tokens in choice uncirculated condition. The start was $9.95 plus $2.00 shipping. Listed unsuccessfully until February 24 when the listing was ended unsold.
2/11/17
Hawaii. 1979 Hawaii Dollar, 28mm Susan B. Anthony Dollar Style. Mintage 10,000. Catalog value $3.50. This one opened at $4.99 plus $3.49 and sold for $6.05 after two bids. It was still housed in its original descriptive Papel Mint folder.
2/11/17
Hawaii. 1883-1983 / 1975 King Kalakaua The Hawaiian Mint Dala. Offered as another copy of the newly described issue mentioned here in January listing, and using the title and image from the previously described items - but listed by another seller. Offered for $9.99 with FREE shipping. It turned out that I was the only bidder for this very scarce item - however when it arrived it turned out to be the very common “1883” Kalakaua gilt brass Akahi Dala, the one with the crude bust and pebbled fields, instead of the “1883-1983 KALAKAUA I KING OF HAWAII - THE HAWAIIAN MINT - 1975 Gem Cameo Proof” piece the seller promised. I was very unhappy with my purchase, but the seller noted that it was sold as-is and that all sales were final, so I was stuck with it. Looks to me like the seller saw an item that was similar, at least on one side, to the coin he was offering and lifted the title and image from the other Ebay seller who had been legitimately offering these coins. The seller got my second negative feedback since I signed up for Ebay in 1998.
2/11/17
Kansas, Independence. 1970 Centennial Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $4.50. Sold to a single bidder at the $9.95 with FREE shipping opening price.
2/12/17
Minnesota, Elk River. Undated 2nd Elk River Reciprocity Days One Fourth Ticket Token. Not previously listed in my catalog, but it will be in the next edition. This has a $9.99 plus $1.95 start and sold for $12.50 after 3 bids by 2 bidders
2/12/17
Ohio, Akron (Northfield…) 1957 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. Mintage unknown. Catalog value $4.00. The start was just 99¢ plus a reasonable $1.65 shipping, but it failed to find a bid. After a couple weeks as a bid item, the seller tried making it a BIN item at $4.95 with FREE shipping. That did not work either, so back it went to a bid item starting at 99¢ plus $1.65, and it is still available at that level, with the current listing ending on April 13.
2/13/17
Alabama, Mobile. 1961 250th Anniversary Half Dollar, anniversary logo variety. Mintage 5,000. Catalog value $3.00. Offered for 99¢ plus $3.49 shipping, this one did not sell the first week it was on Ebay, but did find a single bidder during its second listing.
2/13/17
Iowa, Cascade. 1984 Sesquicentennial Dollar. Mintage 1,000. Catalog value $10.00. Sold to a single bidder at the $6.00 with FREE shipping start.
2/13/17
Texas, Austin. 1974 Texas Dollar. Not previously listed. Started at $5.00 plus $3.00 shipping, this scarce souvenir issue brought $10.51 after just two bids.
2/14/17
North Dakota, Minot. 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2008 Norsk Hostfest Official Commemorative Collector’s Coins, all numbered versions. Not currently listed, but I suppose I will have to add them to the next edition. The lot of 5 sold to a lone bidder for the $39.95 plus $5.00 starting price.
2/14/17
North Dakota, Minot. 2003, 2007, and 2009 Norsk Hostfest Official Commemorative Collector’s Coins, all numbered versions. Not currently listed. From a lot of 7 Norsk Hostfest coins, but these were the only ones inscribed “Official Commemorative Collector’s Coins”. The others were non-listable medals. This group also sold to a single bidder, but for a $49.95 plus $5.00 starting price.
2/15/17
Arizona, Lake Havasu City. 2005/2006 London Bridge Rotary Club Dollars. Unknown mintage. Too new to be in the last edition, but listed for $3.50 in the draft for the new edition. Available from the London Bridge Rotary Club website for $10.00 each. This sale was for a group of 20 uncirculated pieces. The start was $19.99 plus $5.99 shipping. I was the only bidder and won it for the opening price.
2/15/17
Arizona, Lake Havasu City. 2006/2007 London Bridge Rotary Club Dollars. Same deal as the last item - I was the only bidder, and in effect my cost was even less because the seller combined the shipping for the two lots. I thought it was a bargain - but then what am I going to do with 20 of each of these issues? ****One further note on this issue - early the following month the same seller offered another lot of 20 of the 2006/2007 Dollars at the same price. Once again I was the only bidder. This was followed by a further set of 20 the following week. This time I was able to resist, and the lot was relisted weekly until April 2, when someone else bid and won the lot. No more have appeared since.
2/15/17
Oregon, John Day. 1959 State Centennial Half Dollar. No smoke variety. Mintage 6,000 for the smoke and no smoke varieties combined. Catalog value $3.50. Sold to a single bidder for the $4.99 plus $2.89 starting bid.
2/16/17

The BIN option was dropped after the first listing, but it continued to be offered as a for bid item until April 10, when the listing was ended unsold.
2/16/17
Indiana, Columbus. 1976 U. S. Bicentennial Quarter, Private issue for Rathman Studio in a used extremely fine condition. Mintage 1,000. Not previously listed, but it will probably be set at $5.00 in the next edition. Sold to a single bidder at the $1.99 plus $2.67 opening bid.
2/16/17
Texas, Vernon. 1958 Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 4,500. Catalog value $6.50. Up for bid starting at $2.99 with FREE shipping. After 2 bids this nice uncirculated piece sold for a very reasonable $3.75.

2/17/17
Michigan, Negaunee and Ishpeming. 1984 Iron Ore Sesquicentennial $1.50 - the scarcer antiqued brass version. Mintage 2,000. Catalog value $6.50. This one sold remarkably close to the catalog value at $6.51 after 2 bids and a start of $5.27 with FREE shipping.
2/17/17

Oregon, La Grande. 1993 Oregon Trail Centennial $2.00. Nickel silver version. Mintage 6,000. Catalog value $3.50. Sold to a single bidder at the opening price of $3.99 plus $2.89.
2/17/17
Wisconsin, Edgerton. 1986 Thresheree Commemorative Coin. Unknown mintage. Not previously cataloged. The start was $3.99 with FREE shipping. This one sold to a single bidder at the opening price.
2/18/17
Illinois, Streator. 1968 Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 2,500. Catalog value $6.00. The one was a bargain for some lucky bidder, selling for the opening bid of $1.99 plus $1.25.
2/18/17
Iowa, Belle Plaine. 1962 Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 1,000. Catalog value $17.50. Offered for an opening bid of $9.99 with FREE shipping. Quite a scarce token, and usually well worth this opening bid, but unfortunately it had some black crud still adhering to the surface of both sides which had been mostly scrubbed off, leaving the surfaces finely hairlined, except in the protected areas between the letters and around the major design elements. It did not find a bidder, but after a few weeks it was made a Buy It Now item at the same price, and was finally purchased in early April.
2/18/17
New York, Mendon. 1963 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar, neatly holed at top. There were 5 to 6 thousand of these made, but only a relatively few were holed for badges and keychains. No extra value for the holed versions because they are too easy to make! Catalog value $4.00. This one was sold to a single bidder at the opening price of $1.99 plus $2.85 shipping.
2/18/17
Pennsylvania, Exeter Township (Reading). 1967 236th Anniversary Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $4.00. Offered for an opening bid of $3.99 plus $2.61 shipping. There were no bids at that level, so the seller made it a BIN item for a dollar more, $4.99, still plus that $2.61 shipping. As I type this on April 19, it is still available.
2/19/17
Arizona, Lake Havasu City. 1972 London Bridge Rotary Club Dollar. Mintage 25,000. Catalog value $4.00. This sale was for a choice uncirculated one that started off at $3.00 plus $2.60 and sold to the second bidder at $3.25.
2/19/17
Hawaii. 1979 Hawaii Dollar, the 28mm Susan B. Anthony Dollar size and style. Mintage 10,000. Catalog value $3.50. Sold to a single bidder at the $3.99 plus $3.49 opening bid.
2/19/17
Illinois, Farmer City. 1962 125th Anniversary Half Dollar. Mintage 2,500. Catalog value $4.00. Offered for $9.99 plus $3.95, this piece failed to attract a single bid and was not listed again.

2/19/17
Nebraska, Lexington. 1964 Diamond Jubilee - Plum Creek Days Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $4.00. Offered for a $3.00 start with FREE shipping. No bids. It is currently still available at that same price as a Buy It Now item as I write this on April 22.
2/19/17
New York, New York City. 1909 Henry Hudson/Sommers Islands mule. Copper version. Not previously listed, but mentioned in these pages before. This is actually a 1960’s production, now listed as a MTC because it shares a die with other Hudson-Fulton Exposition MTCs that will be listed in the next edition. This one had a $12.99 plus $3.85 start - and that is just what it sold for to the lone bidder.
2/19/17
Oregon, Joseph. 1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 5,000. Catalog value $3.50. This was a silver plated example which I value the same as the regular golden brass variety because many were unofficially plated at the time, and the plating can still be done today. This one was in about uncirculated condition and had a $9.95 plus $2.65 start. It attracted 3 bids from two bidders and sold for $17.87.
2/19/17
Rhode Island, Davisville. 25th Anniversary of the Seabees 1967 Theatre Token. Unknown mintage. Not listed in the previous edition of the MTC catalog, but valued at $8.50 in the draft for the next. Sold to a single bidder at the $6.00 plus $3.00 starting bid.
2/20/17
Iowa, Emmetsburg. Lot of 57 uncirculated Irish Dollars, 1966 to 2008. There were some duplicates, and not all years were included. There were 3 bids by 3 bidders, and it sold for $56.55 - not a bad deal at all!
2/20/17
Michigan, Albion. 1982 Festival of the Forks $2.00. Mintage 1,045. Catalog value $6.50. Offered for a start of $6.95 plus $2.65 shipping. There were no bids and it was not relisted.
2/21/17

2/21/17
Washington, Yakima. 1985 Centennial Commemorative Coin, the oxidized brass version. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $7.50 I was the only bidder at the $10.00 with FREE shipping start.

2/24/17
Hawaii, Maui. 1993 Maui Trade Dollar, Gold Plated version. Mintage 5,000 authorized - far fewer actually struck. Catalog value $7.50. I was the only bidder at the $4.00 plus $2.85 start. When the token arrived it was gold plated - but not the official gold plated version. This was a privately plated example of the standard nickel-silver token (mintage 100,000) and not the scarce official one which has an edge inscription noting its plating and a serial number. I’ll have to admit I was suspicious from the start because the offered coin just didn’t look right - but it was a poor photo and I thought it was worth a chance. At least it didn’t cost me too much
2/24/17
Kentucky, Harrodsburg. 1961 125th Anniversary Half Dollar. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $6.00. About uncirculated. The start was $2.99 plus $2.61 shipping, but there were no bids, and the token was not relisted.
2/25/17
New York, Buffalo. 1899 (1901) Pan American Exposition 25¢ Discount token from H. Kleinhans & Co. Unknown mintage. It was the more common variety with full water lines. Unknown mintage. Catalog value $8.50. This one sold to a single bidder who won it for the opening bid of $5.99 plus $2.89, but had placed an additional bid which turned out to be unnecessary.
2/27/17

Oregon, Vale. 1959 (1960) Oregon Centennial Half Dollar. Mintage 5,000. Catalog value $4.50. This token had an exciting week on eBay - it started off at $4.99 plus $2.89, accumulated 12 bids from 3 determined bidders and sold for $37.52. The winning bidder apparently really wanted this coin because he placed two additional bids on the piece that weren’t needed, just in case there was more competition.
