10/4/19

Indiana, Attica.  1966 Centennial Half Dollar, About Uncirculated.  Start $4.95 plus $2.95 shipping.  There were no bids so it was briefly listed as a Buy It Now item at the same price, but that ended on November 20 when the seller ended the sale “because the item is no longer available”.

10/4/19

10/4/19

Oregon, Cottage Grove.  1963 Bohemia Days Half Dollar, About Uncirculated.  Only one collector wanted it, and he took it home for the $3.99 plus $4.75 shipping starting price.  Don’t you hate it when the postage costs more than the item you bid on!

10/7/19

Hawaii.  1993 Queen Liliuokalani Overthrow Dala.  Start $95.00 with FREE shipping, which currently is too much to ask for this token.  Check what one of these sold for on November 22.  There were no bids and it was offered for a while as a Buy It Now item at the same price.  Then it went on sale for 10% off, but while that sale was going on the seller ended his listing because “the item is no longer available”.

10/8/19

Hawaii, Kauai.  1973 Kauai Dollar.  Two pairs of different sized petroglyphs.  Very Fine.  The seller said it was brass, but the image looked silver.  Now, on closer inspection, I am pretty sure it was silver because the crown is connected to the shrine, and on the brass example in my collection the crown in not connected to the shrine, while it is on the silver.  Start $1.75.  Postage $1.50.  There were 4 bids placed by 3 bidders, and it sold for $4.81 - below the value of the metal in a silver example, but high for a worn brass one.

10/13/19

Vermont, Bennington.  1961 Bicentennial Half Dollar.  Not quite uncirculated.  The start of $1.99 was reasonable, but the $4.56 shipping fee was too much - at least in my opinion.  There were no bids, and the item was not relisted.

10/14/19

Hawaii.  1883-1983 King Kalakaua Akahi Dala, ring of 3 white metal test strikes  along with an example of what the seller said was the normal strike for this issue, but was actually the  earlier small date “1883” golden brass Akahi Dala.  Start $99.95 ($135.00 BIN)  plus $3.50 shipping.  Listed just until October 24 when the seller ended his offering unsold.

10/15/19

Alabama, Montgomery.  1961 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar.  Very Fine only the tiniest of traces of the gilt plating remaining.  Start $18.99 with FREE shipping. 10/17/19

New York, Latham.  1960 Fire Department 50th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Extremely Fine.  Incorrectly offered as Latham, Pennsylvania - which got me excited for a while.  Unfortunately it says New York as plain as day on the reverse.  Darn!  I thought I had found another new one!  Offered for $9.99 plus $3.00 shipping.  There were no bids and the item was not relisted.

10/17/19

North Dakota.  1972 North Dakota Dollar.  Sold to a single bidder for the $9.95 with FREE shipping start.

10/21/19

Iowa, Tipton.  1965 125th Anniversary Dollar.  Start $4.95 plus $3.95 shipping.  I bid because it looked like it just might be the more valuable silver version…but it wasn’t!  I won it as the second bidder for $5.50.  Still a bargain because even the 500 mintage regular issue in nickel silver (which this turned out to be) catalogs for $12.50.

10/21/19

Oregon, Huntington. Undated Days of ’49 H.R. & G.C. $10.00.  Extremely Fine.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.50.  This one was offered for $24.99 plus $3.78 shipping.  There were no bids, and this scarce token was not relisted.  It doesn’t matter much, since this issue (and its companion $5.00 token) of the Huntington Rod and Gun Club will probably not be listed in the next edition of the catalog as they appear to be a non-commemorative private issues.

10/21/19

Oregon, Klamath Falls.  1967 Centennial Dollar struck in Silver.  Start $29.95 with a $3.78 postal fee.  I won it as the second bidder for $36.00.  Cheap!

10/22/19

California, Vacaville.  1963 Fiesta Days Half Dollar.  Choice Uncirculated.  Offered for a start of $4.95 plus $3.95 shipping.  When nobody bit the seller made it a Buy It Now item priced at $9.95 plus $3.95, and so, of course, it remains available two months down the line!

10/22/19

Iowa, Emmetsburg.  Set of four Irish Dollars, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005.  I was the only bidder for the lot, which I won for the start of $6.00 plus $3.00 shipping.  I don’t think many collectors realize how scarce the later dates of this series are!

10/22/19

Iowa, Malvern.  1969 Centennial Half Dollar.  I would grade it as a choice Uncirculated example - but the seller called it Extremely Fine!  Start $5.99 plus 99¢ shipping.  No one bid and it came back for three more weeks.  The seller ended his listing unsold on November 14

110/23/19

Pennsylvania, Boyertown.  1961 Centennial Half Dollar.  Start $8.00 plus $3.50 more for shipping.  As I have said so many times before - a delivered cost of $10.00 or more is just too much for most Municipal Tokens.  This one is still available for the same price (now as a BIN item ) two full months later.

10/23/19

Wisconsin, Delavan.  1961 125th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Sold to a single bidder for the $1.99 plus 85¢ starting bid.

10/24/19

Kansas, Leavenworth. Set of the first 12 Buffalo Bill Cody Dollars, 1969 - 1980.  The start was $89.00 plus $6.00 postage for this collection - which was actually a very good price for these scarce coins which range in mintage from 3,650 down to 1,000 and together catalog for $87.50.  Sold to a single bidder for the opening price.

10/24/19

10/25/19

Texas, Corpus Christi.  1947 Buccaneer Days Nickel.  Small Letters Variety.  Start $7.95 plus $3.89 shipping.  For the week ending December 4 the token was made a Buy It Now item for a slightly lowered $7.77 plus $3.89 start, but after just one week the lot was ended because “the item is no longer available”.

10/26/19

Alabama, Montgomery.  1961 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar.  Well-worn Very Fine condition with just slight traces of the golden finish remaining.  Start $18.99 with FREE shipping.  After a 10 day listing, the start was dropped to $16.99 - then the same day to a $15.71 BIN price and then immediately ended with no explanation given.

Nevada.  Undated (Copyright 1975) Nevada Dollar.  Offered by the seller as an “Unlisted Gem BU Nevada Dollar” that “appears silver”.  This one surely looked like the Nickel Silver Plated version that I catalog for $3.50.  Like the "silver" 1960 Chadron Nebraska issue, this Nevada piece is offered frequently as silver. If I had thought that it really was silver I would have been in there bidding aggressively, but all the "silver" ones I have checked out were silver plated.  The start was $15.00 plus $4.00 shipping.  Four different bidders each placed a bid and it sold for a very high $26.88. This issue, in any finish, appears less frequently than I had expected, so in the next issue of the catalog they probably will go up to $5.00.
