7/1/14

Alaska, Fairbanks.  1971 Alaska Visitors Association Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  Offered for $9.99 plus $4.00 shipping.  There were two bids and it sold for $10.49.

7/1/14

Missouri, Sikeston.  1960 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 3,500.  Catalog value $6.50.  This token, which was in a well circulated XF condition was offered with a $2.99 plus $1.85 shipping opening bid, or with a $9.99 Buy It Now option.  Someone paid the big bucks and went for the Buy It Now price of $9.99 plus shipping.

7/2/14

Alaska, Nome.  1967 Dollar.  Private issue for McAlpine’s Trading Post.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  Up for bids starting at $6.95 plus $1.99 shipping.  No bids.  Not relisted.

7/2/14

Hawaii, Waikiki.  1997 Waikiki Dala in Silver.  Mintage 1,150 for the proof and uncirculated issues combined.  I can’t tell them apart - they are all beautiful!  This one started at $38.44, drew two bids, and sold for $41.01 plus $1.99 shipping.  The Royal Hawaiian Mint currently sells this coin for $59.00.

7/2/14

Montana, Glendive.  1981 Centennial Dollar.  Unknown Mintage.  Catalog value $8.50.  Opened at $2.99 plus $2.00 shipping.  There were no other bids and I was able to buy it at the opening price.  Not bad - but the token will probably be dropping a bit in price in the next edition of the catalog.

7/2/14

New York, Warwick.  1967 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 2,500.  Catalog value $4.50.  Opening bid was $6.95.  Postage $1.99.  No bids and not relisted.

7/3/14

Hawaii, Kona.  1974 Kona Dollars.  Set of two with the numbered and unnumbered varieties.  Bought by someone at the $35.00 Buy it now price.

7/3/14

Kansas.  1961 Kansas Centennial Coin for Sedgwick County.  Unknown mintage.  A very easy-to-find County issue.  Offered for $6.00 with FREE shipping.  No bids, so the seller lowered the price to $4.00, and when this was still not enough to attract a bid, he ended the listing.

7/4/14

Hawaii, Maui.  2009 Maui Dollar 3 piece Proof Set.  This very nice set started off for just 99¢ plus a postage fee that was supposed to calculate itself based on the zip code of the bidder - but that feature did not work.  Hope it wasn’t too much!  There were 6 bids and the set sold for $67.88 plus…who knows!

7/4/14

Hawaii.  1996 Aloha Festivals Dala in Silver.  Full-size 39mm.  Mintage 1,000.  Not listed in my previous edition.  The starting bid was $110.00 (with FREE shipping), which seems pretty steep for a token with a mintage of 1,000 pieces, but there weren’t any bids anyway.  After 3 weeks the price was lowered to $90.00.  Then $85.00, then $80.00 where it has remained until the Date I write this - September 22.  Available at the Royal Hawaiian Mint website for $89.00.

7/5/14

Oregon, Springfield.  1959 Centennial Half Dollar.  Smoke variety, which is easier to find than the no smoke type.  Mintage 20,000 (all varieties).  Catalog value $2.50.  Starting bid was $7.99, and postage $2.99 more.  Repeated listings at this price were unsuccessful, so towards the end of July the seller decided that the way to sell his token was to raise the price.  He did, to a $10.00 start - still with the $2.99 shipping.  On the 13th it was lowered to a $8.99 start.  After that it was placed in his ebay store with a Buy It Now price of $7.99.  This listing will end on August 31.

7/6/14

Ohio, Monroe.  1967 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 2,000.  Catalog value $4.50.  Opening bid was $3.99 plus $2.95 shipping.  When there were no bids at this price this and the following week, the seller placed it in his store at a Buy It Now price of $7.99, still plus the $2.95 shipping.  It still has not sold, and the current listing ends on September 25.

7/6/14

Wyoming, Basin.  1971 Diamond Anniversary Dollar.  Mintage unknown.  Catalog value $4.50.  This was a choice uncirculated example put up for an opening bid of $7.99 plus $1.99 shipping, but no bids were placed and the item was not relisted.

7/7/14

Hawaii.  1986 King Kamehameha Statue Hawaii Dala in silver.  Mintage 500.  Not listed in previous edition.  Offered for a special lowered price because of some slight toning, this one could have been had for $70.00 plus $5.00 shipping ($91.00 Buy It Now).  No bids this week, and it took four more weeks for someone to bid on it.  The Royal Hawaiian Mint currently offers this coin for $69.00.

7/8/14

Hawaii.  1883-1983 Centennial Dala.  Three trial strikes on a piece of nickel silver or white metal.  The “planchet” is a four inch square with a large central round hole.  The bifacial trial strikes are are at the left, right and bottom of the square - which is orientated in the “diamond” position.  None of the three strikes are complete, but the portions of the tokens that are present are well-struck and proof like.  This unusual item started at 99¢ with FREE shipping and sold for $152.63 after 29 bids.

7/8/14

Iowa, Atlantic.  1968 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 15,000.  Catalog value $2.50.  Comes in two rotation varieties, up/up and up/down - neither of which are scarce.  The seller wanted $9.99 plus an additional $3.99 shipping.  Too much.  It did not sell.  Relisted until September 5 at the same price before the seller gave up and ended the listing.

7/8/14

Kansas, Clyde.  1966 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.50.  Opening bid was $2.99, and postage another $1.95.  It sold to a single lucky bidder who got a nice bargain!

7/8/14

7/8/14

New York, Concord (Springville).  1962 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 2,500.  Catalog value $4.00.  Offered for an opening bid of $2.99, or a Buy It Now price of $9.99 plus $1.95 shipping, this one went for the Buy It Now price on the last day of the sale, I guess to someone who did not want to take a chance bidding on it.

7/8/14

New York, Plattsburgh.  1964 Battle Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  Opening bid was $2.99 plus $1.95 shipping, and it sold for $6.38 after 3 bids.  The winning bidder had placed an additional higher bid in case his first one did not win.

7/10/14

Illinois, Braidwood.  1965 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50 in the regular issue golden brass, as this one is.  The start was $9.99 with FREE shipping, and it sold for $15.50 after two bids.

7/11/14

North Dakota.  Dakota Territory Dollar, 1989.  Oxidized Bronze.  Unknown Mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  This piece showed some circulation, probably from being carried as a pocket piece.  Opening bid was $4.99 and the postage charge $2.00.  There were no bids and even though it was repeatedly relisted for nearly two months at the same price, it was unsold when the seller finally ended the listing on September 7.

7/12/14

Illinois, Greenville.  1965 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00, probably going up to $5.00 in the next edition.  Offered for $9.95 plus $2.50 shipping.  Sold to a single bidder.

7/12/14

Kansas.  1961 Saline County Official Centennial Coin.  This location is not difficult to find.  Offered, and sold for, the opening bid of $9.95 plus $1.95 shipping.

7/13/14

Hawaii, Maui.  1994 Maui Trade Dollar in .999 Fine Silver.  Mintage reported as 3,000.  Catalog value from back in the days when silver was under $10.00 an ounce, $20.00.  Offered at a Buy It Now price of $47.50 with FREE shipping.  With no sale this week, the price was dropped to $39.95 and finally sold after two more weeks to a single bidder at that price.

7/13/14

Iowa, State Center.  1973 Rhythm and Roses 100 Scents.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  This is the third issue in this eleven year series.  Opening bid was $5.99 (Buy it Now $9.99) and shipping was FREE.  No bids.  Not relisted.

7/13/14

Michigan, East Tawas.  1962 Centennial Quarter.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $3.00.  This one was offered at a start of $3.99 plus $2.95 additional for postage.  When no one wanted to pay $3.99, the seller decided the best thing to do was to put it in his store for $7.99, still with the $2.95 shipping.  Still available at that amount two months later on September 12.

7/13/14

Pennsylvania, Tower City, Porter Township.  1968 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage, Catalog value $10.00.  Offered for $7.50 with FREE shipping, and remarkably there were no bids.  I couldn’t let it get passed by again the following week, so I bid and won this scarce item for only $7.50.

7/13/14

Wisconsin, Kewaunee County.  1976 U. S. Bicentennial Dollar.  Copper version, struck 10% off center.  Mintage 8,000.  Catalog value $4.50, both figures for the normally struck version.  Start was just $1.95 plus another $1.95 for shipping.  After 4 bids it sold for $7.38.

7/14/14

Arizona, Chandler.  1962 50th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Mintage 4,000.  Catalog value $6.50.  Choice uncirculated, which is typical for this issue.  Start was $9.95 plus $1.95 shipping.  No bids, and offered repeatedly, and unsuccessfully, until September 29 when the seller ended the listing.

7/14/14

Colorado, Breckenridge.  1963 Winter Carnival Half Dollar.  Altered reverse type.  This is one of the issues that came to the attention of the Treasury Department in the early 1960’s as being a threat to their exclusive privilege of producing circulating coins.  It said GOOD FOR CASH OR TRADE…on the reverse, and it was the CASH part that bothered them.  The Feds appeared at the issuer to confiscate the coins, but issuers were able to negotiate a deal that if they were to stamp SOUVENIR over the denomination and remove the line reading IN CASH OR TRADE from all remaining coins, they could still sell them to recoup their investment.  About 700 of the original 2,000 mintage were still on hand, and were altered as described - nothing could be done about the ones already sold and circulating.  Interestingly, the issue continued several more years with the reverse reading NOT GOOD FOR 50¢ IN CASH OR TRADE, but the local merchants accepted them as money anyway!  The altered version catalogs for $15.00.  This one was offered for $9.95 plus an additional $1.95 shipping.  This one and a second piece offered separately at the same amount sold to a single lucky bidder (me) at the opening price.

7/14/14

Hawaii, Waikiki.  1998 RHM Waikiki Dala.  Silver Proof.  Mintage 500 plus 425 more in standard uncirculated.  Not cataloged in previous (1999) edition of my catalog.  Offered for $88.00 plus $7.00 for shipping.  No bids this week, but it did sell the following week for the opening price.  Currently available on the Royal Hawaiian Mint web site for $59.00 - but it is not clear if this is for the proof or the uncirculated version.

7/14/14

Michigan, Utica.  1967 150th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown Mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  Opening bid was $4.95 plus $3.50 shipping.  There were no bids and it was not relisted.

7/14/14

Ohio, Geneva-on-the-Lake.  1968 Fireman’s Roundup Dime.  Unknown mintage.  Unlisted in previous edition of the catalog.  Offered for $3.00 plus $2.75 shipping.  Sold to a single bidder.

7/14/14

West Virginia, Summers County (Hinton).  1963 State Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 15,000.  Catalog value $7.50.  Offered for $7.95 plus shipping ($2.30).  One bid.

7/15/14

Alabama, Tuskaloosa.  1969 150th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $10.00, but probably dropping down to $7.50.  This one was started at $4.99 plus $2.00 shipping.  I was the only bidder.

7/15/14

Illinois, Cairo.  1961 Civil War Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  Offered for a pretty steep $15.99 plus $2.68 shipping.  No bids for four weeks, but then someone finally bid.  Wow!  Some collectors of Civil War Centennial items are really determined!

7/15/45

Michigan, Plainwell.  1969 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  This one was priced at a starting bid of $10.00 plus $3.25 shipping.  No bids, and not relisted.

7/16/14

Hawaii, Maui.  2001 Maui Dollar.  Regular issue in copper nickel.  Sold for the opening price of $3.99 plus 99¢ shipping.

7/16/14

New York, Warwick Valley.  1967 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 2,500.  Catalog value $4.50.  Opening bid was $6.95 plus $1.99 shipping.  There were no bids and it was not offered again.

7/16/14

South Dakota.  Sioux Falls.  1961 (1960) Territorial Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 300,000.  Catalog value $2.50.  Very common-in fact, one of the most easily obtained MTCs.  Priced at a very optimistic $47.50 ($75.00 Buy It Now), a price that was a bit on the high side even considering that the seller was offering FREE shipping.  There were no bids, of course, and it is still being listed every week at the same price, the current closing date being September 26.

7/16/14

Wyoming, Gillette.  1966 75th Anniversary Half Buck.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  An unusual listing in that the piece being offered was in well worn condition.   The seller set the start at $27.99 plus $2.50 shipping, and it sold!  There was just one bidder, but that is all it takes.  The last one I listed in this forum was on ebay for over a year at $5.99 plus $1.75, and never did sell - despite being a nice uncirculated example.

7/17/14

Massachussetts, Southbridge.  1916 Centennial Souvenir Coin.  Unknown Mintage.  Catalog value $15.00.  This example was in the typical extremely fine condition, and it sold for $14.97 after two bids.

7/17/14

New York, Lansingburgh.  1971 200th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $12.50, and surprisingly scarce.  This one started at $6.95 plus $1.99 shipping.  There were 5 bids by just two bidders and it sold for $32.10.  An impressive price, but try to find another!  Actually, all you have to do to find another is to look down the page for another one offered by the same seller on July 20th.

7/18/14

New Jersey, Dunellen.  1962 Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.50.  A nearly uncirculated coin, but unfortunately with a nasty black spot on the obverse.  Offered for $5.99 with FREE shipping.  No bids, so it was lowered to $2.99 the following week and then ended, still without a sale.

7/19/14

Illinois, Altamont.  Undated Schuetzenfest Quarter.  Green Plastic.  Not previously listed, and I am not sure I will be listing it in the next.  If it was a community-wide celebration, I will list it.  If it was a private festival, it will not be listed.  I was the only bidder for this item that was listed and sold for $2.99 plus $1.30 shipping.

7/19/14

Mississippi, Vicksburg.  1963 Siege of Vicksburg Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  This one had a start of $5.99 plus $2.99 shipping.  There were no bids, and the seller listed it a couple more times at this price, then raised it to $6.99, but that still didn’t do the trick, and the item was ended unsold on September 7.  This was a nice coin, and after the new catalog comes out, will be in high demand.  Someone should have bought it!

7/19/14

New York, Nyack.  1963 Centennial of Fire Department Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  Up for bid at a start of $5.99 plus $2.99 shipping.  No bids this week or the following week, so the seller raised his start price to $7.00, then down to $6.99, then after a couple weeks up to $7.99, and currently (until September 14) available for a start of $6.99 - all of these prices with the $2.99 shipping.

7/20/14

Alaska, Fort Wainwright - Eielson A.F.B.  1967 Alaska Centennial Good For One Haircut token.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.50.  Start was $3.99, and postage $3.00 more.  I was the only bidder.  A good deal!

7/20/14

Florida, Avon Park.  1964 75th Anniversary Half Dollar TOKEN DIE.  The obverse of this issue, a little notch at 10:00 to cancel it.  The token is not rare - unknown mintage, $3.50 catalog value.  The die is rare - probably just one made.  It started at $17.50 plus $5.95 shipping.  Five bids pushed the price up to $33.05.

7/20/14

Kansas.  1961 Kearny County Official Centennial Coin.  A scarce county, but this item did not receive a bid despite being offered for a very reasonable start of $3.00 plus $2.00 shipping.  It was not relisted.

7/20/14

New York, Lansingburgh.  1971  200th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $12.50.  Quite scarce!  This example started at $6.95 and sold for a respectable $23.40 after 4 bids by two bidders.  Postage was $1.99.

7/20/14

Oregon, Springfield.  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar.  Smoke from smokestacks at left.  Slightly more common than the “no smoke” variety.  Mintage 7,500 (all varieties).  Catalog value $3.00.  Offered for $7.99 plus $2.99 shipping.  There were no bids this week or the following week, so the seller raised the starting price to $10.00 and tried that for a week.  Still no bids so the seller dropped the start a bit to $8.99.  Then it went down to $7.99, then $6.99 - and that is where it is as I write this on September 14.

7/21/14

New York, Sidney.  1967 Fire Department Dedication Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  Offered, and sold, for the opening price of $6.95 plus $1.99 shipping.

7/21/14

Oreon, Clatsop County.  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 20,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  Offered for $7.50 plus $2.85 shipping.  When there were no bids, the seller lowered the starting price to $5.00 and two weeks later made the shipping price FREE with that same $5.00 start.  No luck - as of September 14, it is still available.

7/21/14

Oregon, Myrtle Creek.  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar.  Heavy lacquered myrtle wood with foil sticker.  Mintage unknown.  Catalog value $12.50.  This one started at 1¢ plus $2.50 shipping and sold for $27.00 after 4 bids.

7/21/14

Oregon, North Bend.  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar.  Lacquered myrtle wood like the above issue, but printed on both sides - no sticker.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  This one also started at 1¢, but it attracted 7 bids and sold for $30.00 - more than the much scarcer Myrtle Creek issue above!

7/22/14

Alaska, Fairbanks.  1976 U. S. Bicentennial private issue Dollar for the Pioneer Hotel.  Unknown mintage, catalog value $6.50.  Offered, and sold, to a single bidder for the opening bid of $8.00 plus $3.00 shipping.

7/22/14

Pennsylvania, Tower City - Porter Township.  1968 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $10.00.  The non-spendable version of this token is pretty common, but the one with the Good for 50¢ reverse is fairly scarce.  This example was offered for $7.50 with FREE shipping.  I was the only bidder.  Another good deal that will be going into my duplicate box.

7/24/14

Oregon, Corvallis.  1957 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.00.  This one was in slightly circulated condition, which is typical.  Very few fully brilliant uncirculated examples have survived.  Start was $8.99 with FREE shipping.  There were four bids and it sold for $11.02.

7/25/14

Iowa, Clarinda.  1941 (90th Anniversary) One Buck Wampum.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $10.00.  Start was $9.99 plus $3.40 shipping.  There were two bids and it sold for $12.38.

7/25/14

Kansas.  1961 Sedgwick County Official Centennial Coin.  Unknown mintage.  The type catalogs for $2.50, but individual counties were not priced in the last edition.  This county is very easy to find.  It was priced at $4.00 with FREE shipping, which is about right, but there were no bids, and the seller did not relist it.

7/26/14

Nebraska.  Undated Big Red Dollar.  Oxidized nickel silver version.  Offered for $26.99 plus $2.50 shipping.  Offered at the same price for two additional weeks before the seller ended the listing without a sale.

7/28/14

Pennsylvania, Forest City.  1964 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  A circulated piece that has been polished.  Offered for $24.99 plus $4.50 shipping.  There were no bids, and the seller continued listing it for 6 additional weeks.  The opening price dropped considerably yesterday, when the seller relisted it for $9.99.  So far there are no bids.

7/29/14

Oklahoma, Burns Flat.  1949 Drawing 10¢ Token.  Unknown mintage.  Unlisted in previous edition of the catalog.  This one offered for a start of $18.00 plus $1.00 shipping.  No bids this week, or for the next three weeks.  The listing was ended on August 19 without a bid.

7/29/14
