1/1/17

Alaska, Fairbanks.  1959 Alaska Statehood Dollar.  Mintage originally 200,000 with additional specimens minted later.  Catalog value $1.50.  This one was a nice uncirculated one slabbed and graded MS64 by NGC.  It was offered for $19.99 plus $3.89 and sold to a single bidder at that price.

1/1/17

Iowa, Preston.  1970 Centennial Souvenir Coin.  Mintage 2,222.  Catalog value $7.50.  Originally offered as a for bid item at $9.99 with FREE shipping, it did not sell and is currently being offered as a Buy It Now item for the same price.  Until February 2 it is on sale at 10 percent off, $8.99.

1/1/17

Maine, Berwick.  1963 250th Anniversary Coin.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.50.  Available at bid for a $5.99 start, or a Buy It Now price of $9.99, either option plus a $2.64 shipping fee.  It is still available, but only as a BIN item for a slightly lower price, $9.75.***a later check shows that it is still available, but now up to $9.95 BIN in the current listing which ends on March 25.

1/1/17

Oregon, Springfield.  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar, variety with smoke at left.  Mintage 7,500 for both varieties combined.  Catalog value for this variety ,which I think is just slightly scarcer than the no smoke variety, is $3.00.  Offered for 69¢ with FREE shipping, this piece sold for just 93¢ after 4 bids by 4 bidders.

1/2/17

Arizona, Prescott.  Undated Slippery Gulch 100 Bucks.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  This one, in the typical XF/AU condition was offered at a $16.00 start with FREE shipping or for a Buy It Now price of $24.95.  When it did not get a bid, the seller put it in his store for the $24.95 price.  It is still there as of March 3.

1/2/17

Michigan, Cedar Springs.  1956 Red Flannel Town Quarter.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  This one was in XF condition, but unfortunately had some black encrustation on the obverse.  Offered for $5.99 with FREE shipping, but without much luck.  As of March 1 it is still available in the Seller’s Store at the same price.

1/3/17

Indiana, Bedford - Lawrence County.  1968 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  This was a very nice specimen, Graded MS64 and encapsulated by NGC.  The start was $1.00 and shipping $2.75 more.  There were 8 bids by 5 bidders and it sold for $9.38.

1/3/17

Michigan, Mt. Morris.  1967 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  This problem-free example was graded MS63 and slabbed by NGC.  After a $1.00 plus $2.75 start this piece sold for $6.57 after 5 bids by 3 bidders.

1/3/17

Michigan, Potterville.  1968 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 2,500.  Catalog value $3.50.  Another NGC encapsulated item, this one conservatively graded MS64.  Start was $1.00 plus $2.75 shipping.   There were 8 bids by 4 bidders and it sold for $7.38.

1/3/17

Lot of 7 miscellaneous tokens including 2 MTC’s, both scarcer issues.  Sheridan (Millwood), Indiana and Perryville, Kentucky, the variety with the April 12 redemption date.  Mintages 1,000 and unknown.  Catalog values $10.00 and $5.00.  The other items were maverick merchant tokens from Columbia City, Indiana.  After a $4.99 with FREE shipping start, the lot sold for $8.50 after 4 bids by 3 bidders.

1/4/17

Alaska, Fairbanks.  1959 Alaska Statehood Golden Dollar.  Mintage at least 200,000.  One of the easiest MTC’s to find.  This one looked like it might have been one of the gold plated ones of which another 75,000 pieces were struck, but it is hard to tell from a photograph.  Catalog value $1.50 in gilt brass, or $2.50 if gold plated.  Up/down orientation.  Another NGC slabbed token, this one graded MS64.  Offered for an opening bid of $24.99 plus $3.89 shipping.  There were no bids.  The token was then made a BIN item at $29.99 and it is still available as of March 3.

1/4/17

Hawaii.  1991 Pearl Harbor Dala struck in silver.  Original version with incorrect perspective.  Mintage 1,941.  Catalog value $25.00.  Sold to a single bidder at the $29.95 plus $3.25 start.  The bidder actually placed an additional bid, which turned out to be unnecessary and was not applied.

1/4/17

Iowa, Emmetsburg,  1984 Irish Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  This could have been bid on for $3.00 with FREE shipping, or bought as a BIN item for $5.00.  There were no bids, and the following week it was only BIN.  When another week passed, the seller ended the listing.

1/4/17

Ohio, Akron.  1925 Akron Centennial 50¢ or $1.00 discount on purchase from the Akron Truss Co.  VF/XF example, a but nicked up and harshly cleaned.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $12.50  Opening bid was $35.00 plus $4.63 shipping.  No bids.  It has been listed over and over at the same start, with the current listing ending on March 13.

1/5/17

California, Modesto.  1976 U.S. Bicentennial Private issue for the The Glo Worm, Good For One Drink.  Mintage 1,500. catalog value $5.00.  This one, unfortunately, was in a well-worn VF/XF condition, with all the gold colored plating worn away.  Offered at a start of $19.00 with FREE shipping.  There was no action then, and it has been available ever since for the same opening bid.  The current listing ends on March 7.

1/5/17

Michigan, Utica.  1967 150th Anniversary Half Dollar, lot of two pieces.  The seller said they were lightly used, but I think both will easily grade better than MS60.  I do not know the mintage of this issue, but they catalog for $4.50 each.  The pair started off for $4.99 with FREE shipping, but ended up selling for $10.56 after 6 bids by 2 bidders.

1/5/17

Nebraska, Alliance.  1963 Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar in Goldene.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  Up for bid at $4.95 plus just 50¢ shipping.  This was a really choice one that went through the first week without a bid, so since no one else wanted it I placed a bid on it the following week and won it for the opening bid.  This one is pretty hard to find.

1/5/17

Ohio, Akron (Northfield Center, etc.)1957 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  Offered and sold to a single bidder at the $6.89 plus 64¢ opening bid.

1/5/17

Oregon, Corvallis.  1957 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.00.  Scarce in any condition, this is an issue that is seldom found in fully uncirculated condition.  About uncirculated ones are typical, but this one with more than half or the gold coloring worn off was not very attractive.  Priced with a $10.00 plus $2.00 starting bid, this one failed to attract a bid and was not relisted.

1/6/17

Washington, Auburn.  1968 75th Anniversary Dollar in Nickel Silver.  Proof-like condition in original Franklin mint easel-style holder.  There were 5,000 standard nickel silver coins produced, and 650 additional examples in the premium proof-like condition.  The proof-like ones are almost as easily obtainable today as the regular issues, nearly 50 years later, because every one of the 650 proof-likes went to collectors, who preserved them over the years.  Most of the standard finish ones were used, and the remainder probably melted down after redemption.  I catalog the proof-like ones for $6.50, and the standard ones at $4.00.  This one with a start price of $5.98 with FREE shipping took four weeks before it finally sold to a single bidder.

1/7/17

Colorado, Idaho Springs.  1962 Annual Gold Rush Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog Value $15.00.  This uncirculated specimen started of at what I thought was a very high $29.95 plus another very high $5.50 for shipping.  It turned out that there were 3 bids by two bidders, and it sold for an impressive $33.00.

1/7/17

Illinois, Williamson.  1964 Quasquicentennial Dollar.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $4.00.  Start was 99¢ plus $2.75 shipping.  There were 3 bids by 3 bidders and it sold for $2.01.

1/7/17

Kansas, Ellinwood.  1972 Centennial Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00 if it has a plain edge and $10.00 if it has a numbered edge - no way to tell which it was from the photos or description.  Sold to a single bidder at the $6.99 plus $2.64 start.

1/7/17

Michigan, Traverse City.  1947 Centennial Quarter.  Hold as all specimens I have seen are.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  Offered for a bid of $7.50 plus $2.67.  There were no bids.  Offered weekly since, and it is still out there for the same terms.  The current listing ends on March 10.

1/7/17

Montana, Sidney.  1970 Mon-Dak Dollar.   Unknown mintage, maybe 1,500.  Catalog value $5.00.  No bids for two weeks, but during its third week someone bid and took this one home for the $4.00 plus $3.05 start.

1/8/17

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  1973 London Bridge Dollar.  Mintage 25,000.  Catalog value $10.00.  Common, but very popular.  Usually.  The start was $3.50 plus $2.60.  There were 9 bids by 5 bidders and this one sold for $25.26.

1/8/17

California, Los Angeles.  1981 Bicentennial Dollars, Set of 6 different, in original descriptive cardboard folder.  Mintage unknown.  Catalog value $2.50 each.  The set was offered for a 99¢ plus $3.50 start, but received no bids.  Relisted every week until the week ending February 5, when the shipping was lowered slightly to $3.00 and there was a single bid for the item.

1/8/17

California, Redding.  1962 Mining Centennial Dollar.  Mintage 15,000 in golden brass and an unknown, but much smaller number in antiqued brass.  I could not tell which variety this one was.  It was encapsulated and graded MS63 by NGC but it showed wear and looked to be chemically treated to change the color.  Maybe a cleaning job gone bad.  It had a dark appearance similar to the antiqued ones, but it was mottled, uneven and spotted.  If I thought it was the antiqued version, which is very scarce, I would have bid, but I did not.  It had a $9.99 plus $5.00 start, attracted two bids, and sold for $10.49.  Less than the cost of slabbing it!

1/8/17

California, Redding.  1965 Centennial Souvenir Gold Coin.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  Sold to a single bidder at the opening price of $4.95 plus $2.67 shipping.  The lone bidder placed two bids, the second of which was not necessary.

1/8/17

Hawaii, Kona.  1979 Kona Coast Dollar in a bright chrome plate.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  The start was $4.99 with FREE shipping, and it sold for $6.49 after two bids.

1/8/17

New Jersey, Atlantic City.  “1878” ©1979 Atlantic City Dollar in Oxidized brass finish.  Unknown mintage.  Not in last edition, but with a catalog value of $5.00 in the draft for the new edition.  Offered by a Canadian seller for 99¢ Canadian (74¢ U. S.) plus $2.99 ($2.24) postage.  I was the only bidder.

1/8/17

New York, Saratoga.  1963 Racing Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 25,000.  Catalog value $4.50.   This auction was for an especially gemmy example that sold to a single bidder at the opening bid of $4.99 plus $2.99.  Another seller, the same day, offered an original $10.00 roll of 20 of these coins in the original printed paper roll, which I had never seen before, for $150.00 bid or $200.00 Buy It Now.  That lot did not find a bidder, went unsold, and was not offered again.  I would have liked that lot, because of the paper roll, but I think I would have stopped bidding at $50.00 which was one third of what the seller wanted to start.

1/8/17

South Carolina, Greenville.  1940 National Cotton Festival Cotton Nickel.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50, but going down.  The start was 99¢ plus $2.60 shipping.  After 4 bids by 2 bidders, the item sold for $1.53.  Another seller offered another one ending on the 16th, this one starting at $3.00 plus $2.75, and it sold to a single bidder.

1/8/17

Alabama, Mobile.  1961 250th Anniversary Half Dollar, Six Flags version.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $3.00.  Encapsulated and graded MS64 by NGC.  Offered for an opening bid of $15.00 plus $4.00 shipping.  There were no bids for two weeks so the seller lowered the start to $8.00 plus $4.00.  This attracted two bidders, one at the $8.00 start and another bidder who won the lot for the next increment, $8.50, and who had placed an additional bid which turned out to be unnecessary.

1/9/17

Montana, McCone County.  1964 Territorial Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  This example was slabbed by NGC and graded MS63.  The start was $15.00 plus $4.00 shipping, and that is what it sold for to the lone bidder.

1/10/17

Alaska, Whittier.  1967 Alaska Purchase Centennial Sportsman’s Inn 1Dollar and 5 Dollar Tokens.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $10.50 for the pair, if both were numbered.  Offered for a $15.00 plus $3.00 starting bid, but there were no bidders this time.  The seller used the illustration from an identical lot he sold last year, so the number on the $5.00 token, 284, was not the number of the token in this lot.  Only the obverse of the 50¢ token was illustrated, so I don’t know for certain if it was the numbered or unnumbered version.

1/11/17

Hawaii.  1991 Pearl Harbor Dala struck in Silver.  Revised version with correct perspective.  Unknown mintage, but the more common variety of this type.  Catalog value $20.00.  After a $17.99 plus $3.25 start this piece sold for $23.59 after 3 bids by as many bidders.

1/11/17

Oregon.  1959 Oregon Centennial Uniface Centennial Logo, as used on the many Half Dollars and So-Called Dollars for this celebration.  Brass version, with smoke and the large hole.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  Part of a lot of 10 modern commemoratives offered for $10.00 plus $4.00 for shipping.  There were 3 bids by 3 bidders and the lot, including the scarce Oregon piece, sold for $23.38.

1/11/17

Wisconsin, Black River Falls.  1983 Centennial Dollar, Antiqued Nickel-silver version, numbered 227.  Mintage originally 250 - probably 100 more struck later.  Catalog value $8.50.  Offered for $1.99 plus $2.95 shipping.  Much to my surprise and pleasure, I was the only person who bid.  Whattadeal!

1/12/17

Hawaii, Kona.  1972 Kona Dollar struck in Sterling Silver, Numbered 359.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $22.50.  This one started at $26.99 with FREE shipping and sold for $52.00 after 7 bids by 3 bidders.

1/12/17

Alaska, Fairbanks.  1959 Alaska Statehood Dollar.  Mintage originally 200,000 with more struck later.  Catalog value $1.50.  This one was uncirculated and slabbed and graded MS64 by NGC, a grade I agree with.  It was offered for $20.99 plus $3.95 but did not find a home at that price.  So the seller decided to put it in his store for $29.99, where it is still available two months later.

1/12/17

California, Calico.  1998 25th Anniversary of Spring Festival Dollar, struck in Brass.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  The start was just 99¢ and postage $2.75 more.  Selling price:  $1.32 after 2 bids.

1/12/17

California, Fort Bragg.  1967 Paul Bunyan Days Dollar.  Mintage 3,000.  Catalog value $4.50.  Start was 99¢ plus $2.75.  Sold for $6.50 after 6 bids by 5 bidders.

1/12/17

Michigan, Plainfield Township (Hale).  1968 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog $15.00.  The item had a 99¢ plus $2.75 start and nobody but me even wanted this little treasure for next to nothing.  I guess Christmas isn’t over yet!

1/12/17

North Dakota, Rolla.  1963 75th Anniversary Jewelorama Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.50.  A nice specimen, but like most of these that appear today, not quite uncirculated.  Start was 99¢ plus $2.75.  Sold for $1.34 after 3 bids by 3 bidders.

1/12/17

Oregon, Albany.  1959 State Centennial, Annual Timber Carnival Half Dollar.  Mintage 10,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  This was an especially choice one - I’d call it MS65 - but I thought this one would not be able to reach its $15.00 plus $2.67 start.  I was wrong - it sold to a single bidder at that price.

1/12/17

Oregon, Klamath Falls - Linkville.  1967 Centennial Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  The start was 99¢ plus $2.75 shipping, but this one attracted a lot of attention, attracting 11 bids from 3 bidders and selling for $6.05.

1/13/17

1/14/17

Hawaii.  2007 King Kamehameha $20 Liberty Dollars.  Unknown Mintage.  Not previously cataloged.  From a seller in Australia.  Originally up for bid at a figure I have now misplaced, but quickly made a Buy It Now item for $135.72 (U.S.) plus $18.85 (U.S.) shipping.  There have not been very many of these on Ebay recently, and I thought this one might tempt somebody, but apparently not - it is still available at the same price with the current listing ending on March 17.

1/14/17

Minnesota, Virginia.  1958 Centennial Iron Nickel.  Mintage 40,000.  Catalog value $2.50.  Started at $5.00 plus $3.00.  After 3 bidders each placed a single bid for this especially choice piece, it sold for $10.50.

1/14/17

Ohio, Geneva.  1966 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  Opening bid was $1.99, and the postage exactly the same, but there were no bids, and after two weekly listings on Ebay, the seller ended the lot, unsold.

1/15/17

Alaska, Fairbanks.  1964 Land of the Midnight Sun Pinch 2 Token - good for two pinches of gold dust.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  Offered for $60.00 with FREE shipping.  No  bids.  After a week the price dropped to $54.00, then $49.00 and for the week ending February 3 the seller went as low as he wanted to go, $45.00, and ended the listing when he did not receive a bid.

1/15/17

Alaska, Skagway.  1974 Gateway to the Klondike Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  This  one started at an opening bid of $25.00 with FREE shipping.  There were no bids and the seller lowered the price to $23.00 the following week.  Still no bids, so the seller tried one more time during the week ending January 29, still had no bites, and ended the listing unsold on January 29 at an opening bid of $21.00.

1/15/17

Ohio, Chardon.  1962 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  Originally offered for $9.99 plus $3.50.  It did not sell until the following week when the start was lowered to $4.99 plus $3.50 and a single bidder placed two bids and won it for the opening price.

1/15/17

Pennsylvania, Jeannette.  1963 75th Anniversary Half Dollar.  The standard gilt brass version but holed at top with a length of chain attached - probably for a key chain.  The standard version had a mintage of 6,000 pieces and a catalog value of $4.00.  This one, in choice AU condition, was offered until February 11 for $9.00 plus $4.29.  At that time the listing was ended unsold.

1/16/17

Ohio, Springboro.  1965 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.   Catalog value $5.00.  Start was $2.99 plus $2.62.  There were no bids, so the seller relisted.  For the week ending February 9, the seller lowered the start and postage to $2.50 and $1.00, which was good enough for me, and I bid and won it for the opening price.

1/18/17

Hawaii, Maui.  1992 set of Nickel Silver, Gold Plate and Silver in original display box.  Mintages reported as 100,000, 10,000 and 2,500 respectively.  Edge varieties not discernible.  Catalog value $30.00 for the set.  This one was offered for a start of $59.00 plus $2.99 shipping.  It sold to a single bidder at the opening bid.

1/20/17

Hawaii.  1883-1983 King Kalakaua Centennial Dala Splasher.  Struck in nickel-silver, and probably cut from one of the rings of 3 strikes described in other listings.  Offered for an opening bid of $45.00 with FREE shipping.  No bids.  Then  offered for a bid of $45.00 or a BIN of $65.00, still no bids.  Then it was taken off Ebay for a day and relisted at the $45.00 with FREE shipping start again.  It has been listed continuously since, at that start, and during its current listing, which ends on March 29, it has finally gotten a bid.  I will update this listing when it closes.****Note - Sold to the single bidder for $45.00.  HOWEVER, a week later the exact same specimen came back, offered for the same old $45 or $65, and after a few days, on February 1, it sold again, this time to someone who was willing to pay the Buy It Now price of $65.00.

1/21/17

Kansas, Sabetha.  1961 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 2,000.  Catalog value $7.50.  This one, unfortunately, in XF/AU condition.  Still, it found a bidder at the $4.95 plus $2.99 start.  The bidder actually placed a second bid, which was not needed, just in case another bidder gave him some competition.

1/21/17

New Mexico, Fort Wingate (Gallup).  1960 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 25,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  This bright, problem-free one was graded  as a MS64 and encapsulated by NGC.  Sold to a single bidder at the opening bid of $10.00 plus $4.00 shipping.

1/22/17

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  1981-1982 London Bridge Dollar.  Mintage 25,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  This example started off as a bid item at a $2.00 + $2.00 start, but when it did not sell it quickly became a Buy It Now item priced at $3.95 + $2.00.  Listed at that price until March 7, when the seller ended the listing unsold.

1/22/17

California, Santa Catalina Island.  1996 Catalina Island Two Trade Dollars.  Mintage 5,500.  Catalog value $3.50.  Offered for $7.77 plus $2.75.  There were no bids and it has not been relisted.

Hawaii, Maui.  2003 Maui Trade Dollar set of 3 in case.  Included proof-like specimens in Nickel-Silver, gold plate, and .999 Silver.  The set started at 99¢ plus $2.67 shipping, and closed - after 9 bids by 6 bidders - at $54.88.

1/23/17

Antarctica.  2011 South Pole Centenary 5 Antarctican Dollars Fantasy Coin.   Unknown mintage.  Not previously listed.  I had not seen this one before, so I bid and won it for the $5.00 plus $2.67 opening bid.  The seller continued to offer these coins weekly at the same price until March 11 when he sold another one and ended the listing.  Another seller - from Hungary! - also sold two pieces during the same time period.  His were both priced at $8.90 plus $3.90, Buy It Now.

1/24/17

Massachusetts, Great Barrington.  1961 Bicentennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 10,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  A common issue, but this one neatly pierced at about 10:30 (obverse).  Perhaps issued this way - the first I have seen.  Priced at a $4.99 plus $2.75 start, this one was listed on Ebay until March 21 without a bid, when the listing was finally ended without a sale.

1/25/17

Kansas, Beloit.  Kansas Centennial/Mitchell County Fair Half Dollar in, apparently, a nickel-silver or antique silver plate, which is an unknown composition.  Mintage (in the normal golden brass) 7,000.  Catalog value (in the regular version) $4.00.  An odd-looking finish I had never seen before.  The start was $14.99 plus $3.85 shipping.  I won it for $17.50 - the only other bidder bid $17.00.  Now that I can examine it closely, I think it is a cheap, unofficial home plating job, not an official issue, and so will not be listing it.  I’ll take it with me to the NTCA show this summer and see what my Kansas buddies think of it.  One of them was probably the underbidder!

1/25/17

Oregon.  1959 Oregon Centennial with Blank Reverse in Golden Brass - large hole, with smoke variety.  A So-Called Dollar, HK-565.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  With a $5.95 plus $2.60 start, this piece attracted 5 bids by 4 bidders, and sold for $36.00 in choice about uncirculated condition.  NGC would probably grade it a MS64.

1/26/17

Florida, Pensacola.  1959 400th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  The sale was for a well-worn VF-XF example.  Start was $4.99 plus $3.49 for shipping.  No bids.  After a month the price went down to a $2.99 +$3.49 start. A week later it went down to $1.99 plus $3.49 where it has remained ever since except for one week when it went up to $2.49 before dropping back to $1.99 plus postage.  The current listing ends on March 28.

1/26/17

Minnesota, Lanesboro.  1969 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  About Uncirculated.  Catalog value $6.00.  This one began with a $7.00 plus $2.67 start, but when it did not attract a bid it was made a BIN item at the same amount and is still in the seller’s store as of March 25.

1/26/17

Mississippi, Vicksburg.  1963 Civil War Siege Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  Set with a start of $10.00 plus $2.67, this one was listed until February 9 before it was ended by the seller, still unsold.

1/27/17

Oregon, Astoria.  1966 Bridge Dedication Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  The seller had this one set for a $23.00 with FREE shipping start, but there were no bids, so for the listing ending February 16, the opening was lowered to $19.00, then $17.00, $15.00, $13.00, $12.00 and is currently available for a start of $11.50 for the listing ending March 31. Update**** Two weeks later it went down to $10.00, and a week after that, $9.00.  It was then made a BIN item for $9.50, still with FREE shipping.  For the current listing, ending June 21, it went down to $9.00 Buy It Now - still too high, I suspect.

California, Catalina Island.  1979 Film Festival Dollar.  Mintage 20,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  Offered for $9.99 with FREE shipping.  There were no bids and the listing was ended by the seller.

1/28/17

Illinois, Wayne County.  1963 150th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  A scarce issue that sold to a single bidder at the opening price of 99¢!  Unfortunately, the $5.00 shipping fee took it out of the real bargain category.

1/28/17

New York, Latham.  1960 Fire Department Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  Offered at a $5.25 plus $2.67, and then made a BIN item at $4.85.  The listing ended unsold on March 17.  Had this been an uncirculated specimen, it may well have sold - but this was a drab XF piece.

1/29/17

Alaska, Juneau.  1967 Alaska Purchase Centennial Green Plastic Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  Sold to a single bidder for the $5.50 with FREE shipping start.

1/29/17

Alaska, North Pole.  1965 Farthest North Rodeo Cold Buck in nickel-silver, unnumbered variety.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  The $21.00 start, even with FREE shipping, was too high for this choice About Uncirculated coin, and it went bidless through price reductions of $19.00, $17.00, $15.00, $13.00, $11.00, $9.00, and a final $8.50 where it was when the listing was ended unsold on March 24.

1/29/17

Alaska, North Pole.  Undated (1966) Farthest North Rodeo Cold Buck in nickel-silver. Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  The start was $16.00 with FREE shipping, but there were no bids and the item was not relisted.

1/29/17

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  1972 London Bridge Dollar.  The first year for a series that continues today.  Mintage 25,000.  Catalog value $4.00.  This nice uncirculated example failed to attract a bid at its $3.00 plus $2.60 starting bid.  It was not relisted.

1/29/17

Illinois, New Athens.  1966 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.00.  This choice uncirculated one started at 99¢ with $1.65 shipping, and sold for $1.53 after 2 bids.

1/29/17

Minnesota.  1958 Centennial Uniface “Dollar” using the Centennial logo from the obverse of the Cass County, Chisholm, Coleraine, and Virginia Half Dollars, but with a blank (except for the maker’s name) reverse.  This is the gilt brass version, holed at the top, and collected by So-Called Dollar collectors as HK-517.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously listed in my catalog.  The sale was for a specimen in XF condition that appears to be produced in antiqued brass with no trace of the original gold colored plating remaining.  I will consider this to be a worn gilt brass piece until I determine if any antique brass pieces were produced.  Sold to a single bidder at the $7.00 plus $2.80 opening bid.  The reverse of this piece had some rather substantial gouges over half the surface, and that was probably the reason this scarce issue received no real attention from the SCD collectors.

1/29/17

Ohio, Fort Stephenson (Freemont).  1963 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 10,000.  Catalog value $4.00.  There were no bids at the 99¢ plus $1.65 opening bid for this nice copy, so the seller made it a Buy It Now item priced at $4.95 with FREE shipping.  It is still available at this price with the current listing ending on April 5.

1/29/17

Ohio, Mogadore.  1957 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  The start was just 99¢ and postage $1.65 more, and I was the only bidder - winning it for the give-away opening price!

1/29/17
