Oregon, Ashland.  1980 Two Ashland Dollars, unnumbered.  Mintage 10,000.  Catalog value $4.00.  Slightly circulated.  Offered for $7.99 plus $2.50 shipping.  No bids this week, so the start was lowered to $5.99 plus $2.50 for a couple weeks, still without success.  The following week it went down to $3.99 plus $2.50.  When that didn’t work, the seller made it a Buy It Now item at the same price for a couple more weeks before finally ending the listing unsold.

West Virginia Centennial Dollar.  Gilt brass, uniface.  Mintage reportedly 250.  Catalog value $15.00.  The start was $9.99 plus $2.00 shipping.  It sold for $33.00 after 5 bids.  A rare one!

12/3/14

12/4/14

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  1972 London Bridge Dollar - the first issue of a continuing series of now over 40 years.  Mintage 25,000.  Catalog value $4.00.  Available on the issuer’s website for $126.00.  Remember though, that profits from coins sold by the London Bridge Rotary Club go to very worthwhile charitable causes.  This one was offered by a private seller for $29.99 plus $7.45 shipping.  There were no bids and it was not relisted.

12/4/14

Michigan, Reed City.  1975 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 2,500.  Catalog value $5.00.  The start was 99¢ plus an additional $1.99 shipping.  Sold to a single bidder at the opening price.  A surprising bargain!

12/4/14

12/4/14

New York, Syracuse.  1948 Sesquicentennial Dime. Brass Encased Postage Stamp.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $17.50 each.  Set of five, each with a different U. S. Postage Stamp featuring Franklin Roosevelt.  Offered for a start of $9.99 plus $10.00 shipping.  There were 15 bids by 5 bidders, and the set ended up selling for $208.38, which I think was a bargain.  I was the second place bidder at the next lower increment, $205.88.  I already had this set and was bidding to get them for my duplicate box!  This was the first set I had seen offered for at least 15 years.  Interestingly, the third place bidder only bid $127.50.

Minnesota, Waseca.  1968 Centennial Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00.  The opening bid for this about uncirculated specimen was $12.25 with free shipping.  The item received no bids this week, so the price was raised to $15.93, still with FREE shipping, and was made a Buy It Now item in the Seller’s Store.  It is still available, with the current listing ending on February 4, 2015.

12/5/14

Pennsylvania, Halifax.  1969 175th Anniversary Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  The opening bid was $5.95 plus $2.50 shipping.  There were no bids, so it was placed in the seller’s store for the same price, but Buy It Now.  It is still there as of January 11.

12/5/14

Washington, Kitsap County.  1965 County Fair Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.50.  This sale was for an original cardboard display board of 20 pieces with information about the coin.  The start was $19.95 plus $11.95 shipping.  I was the only bidder and won it for the opening bid.  A neat item that has to be rare!

12/6/14

12/6/14

12/6/14

Hawaii, Maui.  2014 Maui Two Dollars.  Current issue.  Unknown mintage.  Too new to be cataloged.  Up for bid at a start of just 99¢ plus $2.25 shipping, this item received no bids!  It was not relisted.

12/6/14

Oregon, Gold Beach.  Undated Chamber of Commerce $1.00 Chinook.  A very scarce item I catalog for $22.50.  The start was $6.95 plus $1.95 shipping.  After 7 bids I won it for $41.05, a price I regard as a bargain - even as a duplicate!

12/7/14

Minnesota.  1958 Minnesota Statehood Centennial (almost) Uniface obverse of the Minnesota Centennial Municipal Tokens for Cass County, Chisholm, Coleraine and Virginia - as well as for 8 So-Called Dollars.  The reverse is blank except for the Maker’s name and location in tiny letters (WENDELL-N.W./ MPLS.).  This one a well circulated extremely fine holed aluminum example, cataloged in the SCD book as HK-518 (unholed).  I have resisted listing this one in the past because the reverse is not blank like the similar Wendell pieces from Alabama, Colorado  Oregon and South Dakota - which I do list - but I think I will include this and its companion GB piece in the next edition.  If I do, they will probably list for about $10.00 each to keep their catalog value in line with similarly scarce MTC issues.  This one was offered - and sold to a single bidder - for the opening bid of $55.00 with FREE shipping.

12/8/14

New York, Hudson.  1959 Hudson - Champlain  Celebration, Hose Company Anniversary Half Dollar. Mintage 7,500.  Catalog value $4.50.  The start was $6.95 plus $1.99 shipping.  After two bids it sold for $7.88.

12/9/14

Iowa, Burlington.  1963 125th Anniversary Steamboat Days Half Dollar.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $3.50.  Offered for $10.00 plus $3.25 shipping.  No bids.  Placed in the Seller’s Store at the same price, and currently offered (until February 7) on a 35% off sale - which make it $6.50 plus $3.25, Buy It Now.

12/9/14

Iowa, Clare.  1980 Irish Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  Offered for $10.00 plus $3.25 shipping.  No bids.  Placed in the Seller’s Store at the same price, but sometime between then and now it was removed “because the item is no longer available”.

12/9/14

Iowa, Emmetsburg.  1979 Irish Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  This is issue #14 in this series.  Offered for $8.00 plus $3.25 shipping.  No bids.  Placed in the Seller’s Store at the same price, but like the above item, sometime later it was removed “because the item is no longer available”.

12/9/14

Iowa, La Porte City.  1971 Commemorative Coin.  Mintage 2,000.  Catalog value $4.50.  Offered for $10.00 plus $3.25 shipping.  No bids.  Placed in the Seller’s Store at the same price, and currently offered (until February 7) on a 35% off sale - which make it $6.50 plus $3.25 Buy It Now.

12/9/14

Missouri, Kirkwood. 1965 Centennial Half Dollar, variety with stylized tree on the obverse. Unknown mintage.  Catalog $4.00. Offered for $10.00 plus $11.55 shipping.  Not surprisingly, there were no bids at this price.  It is still being offered at the same price 6 weeks later.

12/9/14

Oregon, North Santiam (Stayton).  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 5,000. Catalog value $4.00.  Offered for $15.00 plus a shipping fee of $7.15.  No bids then, and it has been relisted for the past 5 weeks at the same price, and is still available.

12/10/14

Hawaii.  “1883” (1981).  Silver Kamehameha Replica Kala Dala by THM - The Hawaiian Mint.  Mintage 3,200.  Catalog value, $20.00.  This choice piece was offered for a start of $19.99 plus $4.00 shipping.  After 6 bids it sold for $32.59, an attractive coin and a good deal in today’s market.

12/10/14

Kansas.  1961 Official Centennial Coin for Johnson County, nickel plated version.  Unknown Mintage.  Not previously cataloged individually.  This is the only one of the 1961 County series that is regularly found plated.  This nickel or chrome plated version is not much harder to find than the standard oxidized bronze version.  This one started off at $5.00 plus $2.25 postage.  After two bids it sold for $8.15.

12/10/14

Michigan, Marquette.  1949 Centennial Quarter.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $5.00 in the typical AU condition it is usually found in - this one, however appeared to be fully uncirculated, which should give it a good premium.  Up for bid starting at $20.00 plus $1.75, but that was apparently too much as it did not sell.  After a few more weeks at the same price, the seller put it in his Store for a Buy It Now price of $19.00 plus $2.00 shipping.  Still available, the current listing ends on March 3.

12/10/14

Michigan, Upper Peninsula.  Undated Upper Peninsula Dollar, Heraldic Eagle type.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $5.00.  Much scarcer than the side view eagle variety.  Start was 99¢ plus another $1.99 for postage.  After 3 bids it sold for $4.13, a bargain.  Had I known this one would go so low, I would have bid.  It was a nice fully uncirculated specimen too!

12/10/14

Nebraska, Lexington.  1964 Diamond Jubilee Plum Creek Days Half Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  While this piece appeared to be uncirculated, it did have some very noticeable stains on the obverse.  Offered for $2.95 plus $2.50 shipping.  After two more listings as an auction item, it was placed in the Seller’s Store for a Buy It Now price of $3.49, still plus that $2.50 shipping.  Still available in early February.

12/10/14

Wisconsin, Grantsburg.  1934 Auction Buck, paper.  Unknown quantity produced.  Not previously cataloged.  Issued by the Grantsburg Business Men and redeemable at a special “no cash” auction.  I do not currently list many paper items, but since it fits all the requirements to be considered an example of Municipal Trade Currency, it is a candidate for listing in a future edition.  For now, there does not seem to be much interest in it - Offered for $9.99 ($15.00 BIN) plus a $2.32. shipping fee, it attracted no bids.  After 3 weeks of being relisted, the seller made the shipping FREE, but that still did not do it, and the item was ended on January 10.

12/11/14

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  2002/2003 The Price of Freedom Commemorative Coin.  Unknown mintage.  Not yet cataloged.  Available on the London Bridge Rotary Club website for $30.00.  This one sold for much less - After a 99¢ plus $2.50 start, three bidders pushed the price up to a mere $1.30.  Had I known it would sell for so little, I would have bid.  I regard it as a $5.00 token.

12/11/14

New York, Saratoga.  1963 Racing Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 25,000.  Usual golden bronze finish, about uncirculated.  Catalog value $4.50.  Offered for $1.99 plus $1.55 shipping.  There were no bids and it was not offered the following week.

12/11/14

Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Sesquicentennial Treasure Island Doubloon.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously cataloged.  This was a choice extremely fine piece that was offered for $3.88 plus $1.79 shipping.  It sold to a lone bidder.

12/11/14

North Dakota, Bismarck.  1962 Little World Series Half Dollar, nickel silver version.  Mintage unknown.  Catalog value $5.00.  This choice uncirculated example was offered with a start of $5.99 plus $1.99 more for shipping.  There were no bids and it was not relisted.

12/12/14

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  2001/2002 U. S. S. Arizona London Bridge Commemorative Coin.  Standard oxidized nickel-silver finish.  Unknown mintage.  Not in the last edition of the catalog.  Available on the London Bridge Rotary Club website for $55.00.  Sold to a single bidder for the $5.00 plus $8.00 shipping opening bid.

12/12/14

Arizona, Lake Havasu City 2003/2004 Lewis and Clark Expedition “Dollar” set of Silver, Colorized Nickel-Silver, and Antiqued Brass in original case.  Unknown mintage.  Only the regular issue Antique Brass version still available on the London Bridge Rotary Club website, for $10.00.  This set had a $25.00 plus $18.00 shipping start, and sold to a single bidder.  The high postage charges for this and the previous item were due to them being sent from Norway.

12/13/14

Alabama, Mobile.  1961 250th Anniversary Half Dollar, Raphael Semmes portrait type.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $3.00.  This type comes in both coin (up/down) and medal (up/up) orientation.  No telling which this was from the photographs, but neither variety seems significantly scarcer than the other.  This piece had a really high $19.95 plus $1.95 start, and it wasn’t even uncirculated, so I was not surprised that it received no bids.  It was relisted as a Buy It Now item at $14.95 plus $1.95 and is still looking for a home.  The current listing ends on April 23, 2015.

12/13/14

Texas, Corpus Christi.  Undated (1989-90) Sand Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  Sold to a single bidder at the $1.49 plus $3.00 opening bid.

12/13/14

Virginia, Charlottesville.  1962 200th Anniversary Half Dollar, Lewis and Clark variety.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $6.00.  Despite a very high opening bid of $19.95 plus $1.95 shipping, this about uncirculated example sold to a single bidder.

12/14/14

Pennsylvania, Kane.  1964 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $5.00.  The opening bid was $16.95 with FREE shipping.  When it did not sell, it was placed in the seller’s store for Buy It Now prices gradually dropping down to $10.99 where it is now, March 29, 2015.

12/15/14

Oregon, Sweet Home.  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 5,000.  Catalog value $4.00.  Offered for a start of $15.00 plus $7.15 shipping.  Of course it did not sell.  Offered a couple times since then, still with the same result.  This seller offers a number of modern commemoratives at prices and shipping fees that defy logic - but still he manages to sell a few items every month!

12/16/14

Michigan, Albion.  1983 Festival of the Forks Two Dollars.  Mintage 700.  Catalog value $8.50.  The final year in this series.  Offered for $10.00 plus $3.25 shipping.  No bids, and not relisted.

12/17/14

Iowa, Monroe.  1975 Old Settlers Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  The fifth issue in a nine year series.  Offered for $10.00 plus $3.25 shipping, Buy It Now, in the Seller’s Store.  The seller currently notes that the item is no longer available, although there is no record of it selling on Ebay.

12/17/14

Iowa, Monroe.  1976 Old Settlers Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  The sixth issue in a nine year series.  Offered for $10.00 plus $3.25 shipping, Buy It Now, in the Seller’s Store.  The seller notes that the item is no longer available, although there is no record of it selling on Ebay.

12/17/14

12/17/14

Iowa, Pella.  1975 Tulip Time Festival Dutch Dollar.  The fifth year in this series that continues today.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $6.00.  This issue is typically found in uncirculated condition, so this slightly used one which was noted to have pitting on the reverse would be a hard sell.  The start was a reasonable $2.99 and shipping only $1.00 more, but there were no bids.  The following week it was lowered by 50¢, but still no one bid and the listing was ended unsold.

12/18/14

California, Alcatraz.  2013 Al Capone Bimetal Bootlegger Dollar.  Unknown mintage.  Not previously cataloged.  Ten pieces were available for $7.99  each plus $5.00 shipping from a seller in Germany.  Two were sold, and the remainder are still available.

12/19/14

California.  Walker Scott Company $5.00 Gift Coin with the Corbin Mint California Dollar die used for the reverse.  Like the $10.00 one described on 9/29/14.  Unlisted.  A private issue for a California based chain of department stores, now defunct.  The seller put this up for $39.95 start, plus $2.00 shipping.  I need it, but it is too much money for me - and because there were no bids, I suspect it was too much for anyone else as well!  Offered a couple times, then placed in the Seller’s Store at the same price, but Buy It Now.  It is still available there - the current listing ends on July 30, seven months later!

12/20/14

Colorado, Denver.  1975 Bronco Buck Sports Schedule Medal.  These apparently issued over many years, feature the Denver Broncos logo on the front and a schedule of the games on the reverse.  I have decided that even though they say BRONCO BUCK on them, they are not really a municipal token, and I will not be listing them.

12/23/14

Michigan, Hastings, Barry County.  1971 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage 7,500.  Catalog value $2.00.  Starting bid, which was not made, was $4.00, plus another $2.00 for shipping.  Relisted at the same price until February 9 when the seller ended the listing without a sale.

12/23/14

Wyoming, Laramie.  1968 Centennial Half Dollar.  This one is the two pole/not recut variety - the scarcest of the three die varieties I list.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value for this variety $6.00, the others are $4.00 each.  The start was an interesting $43.25, and the postage $3.85 more.  Of course there were no bids.  It was not relisted.

12/24/14

Pennsylvania, New Oxford.  1974 Centennial Coin.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $4.00.  This one had a start of $5.95 plus $2.50 shipping.  Sold to a single bidder.

Hawaii 1991 Princess Kaiulani Princess Dala with First Day of Issue Counterstamp.  Mintage 340.  Unlisted in the previous edition of my catalog.  Available on the Royal Hawaiian Mint website for $225.00.  The seller was asking a $199.00 plus $3.00 shipping opening bid, but was unable to attract the interest of a single bidder.  The next week it was available for the same opening bid, but the shipping was upped to $5.00.  Still no bids.  The price was lowered to $169.00 plus $5.00 for the next four weeks when the seller finally gave up and ended the listing with his coin unsold.

Utah, St. George.  1977 Trade Dollar, no star variety.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $7.50.  This piece started off at $1.99 plus a very healthy $5.99 shipping.  After 4 bids it sold for $7.38.

California, 1980.  Susan B. Anthony size California Dollar.  Mintage 12,000.  Catalog value $3.00.  This one, still in the original packaging, was up for bid for a start of $18.00 with FREE shipping, but it failed to receive a bid.  The seller tried one additional week at the same price before giving up and ending his listing.

New York, New York City.  1986 Statue of Liberty Dollar.  Currently listed, but probably not for long.  The front has the design of the old “Morgan” Dollar, and the reverse a view of the Statue of Liberty.  There is no denomination stated - just implied by the dollar design.  Catalog value $3.50.  This piece offered for $19.95 postpaid.  There were no takers that week, nor at any time since then - it is now February 26 - even with the new “Make Offer” option.

Oregon, Baker.  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar, Hell’s Canyon type, No Smoke variety.  Mintage 15,000 for all types and varieties combined.  Catalog value $4.00.  Offered for $4.95 plus $2.50 shipping.  After a few weeks with no sale, it was placed in the seller’s Store at a Buy It Now price of $5.98, still with that $2.50 shipping fee.  Still available at the end of February.

Washington, Ellensburg.  Undated Rodeo Quarter.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  I listed the set of these tokens, up to the $1.00, in the last edition of the catalog.  They probably won’t make it into the next.  Simple merchant token-like design with ELLENSBURG / SOUVENIR / RODEO on the front and the denomination on the reverse.  I don’t think they fit the definition of a Municipal Trade Coin, although other tokens from different rodeos are listed - particularly if they portray a famous cowboy or rodeo event or have an expiration date.  I’ll have to think about it.  Anyway, this one was offered, and won, for the opening bid of $3.99 plus $1.75 shipping.

12/29/14

Arizona, Lake Havasu City.  2006/2007 London Bridge Dollar.  Mintage unknown.  Too new to have been included in the last edition of the catalog, but valued at $3.50 in the edition I am working on.  Available for $10.00 from the London Bridge Rotary Club website.  Offered for $5.99 plus $2.32 shipping, it received no bids this week.  Listed until February 4, it still received no bids even after being lowered by 50¢ during the final two weeks.

12/29/14

North Dakota, Mandan. 1981 100th Aniversary of the Northern Pacific Depot.  First year of the second series set of North Dakota Dollars.  Mintage 750.  Catalog value $5.00 to $6.50, depending on the edge inscription.  The second series of these North Dakota Dollars (and the South Dakota Dollars by the same issuer as well) are much scarcer than the first series.  I think the first series sold very well at the beginning, but as sales decreased over the years, fewer and fewer people were interested.  The seller still had the same number made each year, and so ended up with more and more leftovers.  The second series started off with a much more realistic mintage that could actually be sold, and today are much less frequently encountered than the earlier years.  On ebay recently there have been sets of the 10 pieces in the first series, plus a couple “errors” in heavy Capitol Plastics cases selling for under $20.00.  The second series never appears in sets and when individual pieces are listed, they usually sell.  This one - not even uncirculated - Was listed for a $11.95 with FREE shipping start, and it sold to a single bidder.

12/30/14

Hawaii.  “1883” King Kalakaua Dala in Gold Anodized Aluminum.  Unknown mintage.  Catalog value $3.50.  These have been selling for prices all over the board, this one - now that the Hawaiian “gold rush” on ebay seems to be over - on the more reasonable side.  Offered for $1.00 plus $2.75 shipping, this piece drew two bids and sold for $1.25.  Part of a set of three gold anodized “Dalas” of Hawaiian royalty, this issue is the most easily obtainable.  Marked RHM, this piece was produced by an earlier reincarnation of the Royal Hawaiian Mint, not related to the current one at all.

12/30/14

Pennsylvania, Shenandoah.  1966 Centennial Half Dollar.  Mintage unknown.  Catalog value $4.50.  Offered for a very reasonable start of just $1.00, but the good deal was messed up by the shipping fee of $6.51, and there were no bids.  Relisted until February 24, there were still no bidders, I am sure because of the unreasonable shipping cost.
