9/10/21

Hawaii Maui.  2017 Maui Dollar.  This seller finally sold the last of 10 of these that he had been offering since April at $17.99 each. Shipping was FREE.  I just bought mine for $6.00 from joelscoins.com - see my note below for the 2018 issue.

9/10/21

Hawaii Maui.  2018 Maui Dollar.  This seller has been offering these for some time at $17.99 each with FREE shipping. He has two left.  I had been holding off because the price seemed way too steep - but I had not seen them available elsewhere, so I bought one.  Now there is one left.  Rats! Five weeks after writing this post I noticed that the 2018 Maui Dollars are available at joelscoins.com for $6.00 each, or $75.00 for a roll of 20. Joel also has the dates from 2014 to 2017 available for the same price.  I also appreciated his comment concerning the direction the new management of the Maui Dollar program has taken.  I totally agree with his sentiment.  Go to his website, search for Maui Trade Dollars, and you will find it.  You will also find his listing of other interesting coins for sale - many of which are borderline MTC’s, especially under his Micro Nation and Unofficial Coins category.

9/17/21

Hawaii, Maui.  2005 Maui Dollar.  Start $2.00 plus $2.00 more for shipping.  When nobody placed a bid in two weeks, the seller tried a $1.50 start.  That did not do the trick either, so the item was ended unsold on October 9.

California, Redding.  1965 Souvenir Gold Coin.  Start $9.99 plus $4.75 shipping.  When there were no bids, the seller added a Best Offer option, and the item sold for an amount Ebay will not disclose on October 13.  Why does Ebay hide the amount an item sells for - I sure don’t know!

9/18/21

Hawaii.  1988 Hawaiian Scenic Series Dala #3 - Whale watching at Lahaina, close view of whale.  A few hairlines and a bit smudgy, but still proof-like.  Start $38.00 plus $4.00 postage.  After 2 weeks the start was dropped to $30.00.  Still no bids, so for the week ending October 30 the seller tried $27.00 plus $4.00, and it finally sold to a single bidder.  Cheap!

9/18/21

New York, New York City.  1964 New York World’s Fair John and Jacqueline Kennedy Dollar.  Extremely Fine, with the original silver plating gone, and covered with many scratches, hairlines and abrasions to the surface - probably from the removal of the plating.  Start $4.99 plus $4.75 shipping.  It sold for $18.50 after 4 bids from 4 different bidders.

9/18/21

Washington, Spokane.  1921 Spokane Industrial Dollar.  An unusual dollar-size token inscribed on the obverse SPOKANE’S INDUSTRIAL DOLLAR, GOOD FOR TWO DOLLARS WORTH OF INLAND EMPIRE MF’D PRODUCTS. This side also features a large $2 within a wreath, a number block with a 2 stamped into it, and the date.  The reverse reads  BUY HOME MADE PRODUCTS   EMPLOY MORE PEOPLE   NOT GOOD IF HELD MORE THAN 24 HOURS which is inscribed over a large dollar sign.I am not sure that this should be included with the Municipal Tokens - while it clearly was intended  for general use, it does not really commemorate anything. It seems to be more in the category of Emergency Money like the depression script and tokens of the 1930’s.  It made it into the last edition of the catalog, but may be dropped from the next.  I do not know the mintage, but it is likely very low considering that the only other one I have seen was numbered 7, and this one is numbered 2.  It also is scarce enough to have escaped listing in Al Erickson’s Washington Token catalog.  I valued it at $17.50 in the last edition of my catalog.  Marketed as an “Unlisted So-Called Dollar”, this one had a $29.95 plus $3.00 start, attracted just 3 bids, and sold (to me) for $36.00 - which was a pleasant surprise!

North Dakota, Bismarck.  1961 Dakota Territory Centennial Half Dollar.  Chief Four Bears, July 4 redemption date.  Standard golden brass version.  About Uncirculated.  Sold to a single bidder for the $5.00 plus $2.95 opening bid.  The seller noted it was the “Rare Four Bears variety’ but with a mintage of 50,000 I do not think it can be called “rare”.

9/23/21

Oregon, La Grande.  1959 Oregon Centennial Half Dollar.  Sold to a single bidder for the opening bid of $1.99 plus $3.99 shipping.
